Pretty Impressive Resume Empty There is more stories

Post  747JetMech March 5th 2014, 1:20 pm

A few years back I read the story between The Old One and Bob Glidden. Very interesting...
About 10 years ago I bought a set of pistons on Ebay for a 500 inch, Boss 429. After opening the box, I discovered the pistons were Bob Gliddens from his prostock car. The piston box has all of Bobs instructions on how he wanted the pistons made. I am sure these were for a set of the Super Swirl heads...

Cool Stuff.

Larry Widmer must have been a pretty low key fellow? I see PN/M-6049-A460 in his development list, and have never heard of him mentioned around here? What year did Pro Stock break the 200MPH barrier anyway? 195 MPH in 1982-83 is not for off the 200 bounty, and that is not been too long ago.

Thanks for the info Boss429. I could not remember the dates. I do remember the 7.0 ET and 200MPH where a big deal to break, back then. If this is a repost, I never saw it, before, but it could well be. It appears Larry Widmer, may have been ahead of the curve, or maybe even the tip of the spear, if the information in the links is correct? Bob Glidden and SVO where major players in our BBF world, and it looks like Larry may have been too. Gene Deputy of Texas Turbo in Houston Tx. and his turbo SBF Mustang was also in the old SVO catalogs, long before everyone was running turbo's, and was down to 7.90's "Bruno,Lenco" "8.30's with the C-6" with the car, in the early 90's. It would seem likely they worked with the SVO people pretty closely, back in the day.

the story I liked was when larry showed up at moody's and told them that he was their to pick up the holley dominator they told him to piss off.so he went to the corner phone booth and called fords head guy by the time he walked back they were waiting at the door.they told him he must be very important that no one knew the carbs existed and that they only had one to give him because of a wreck in testing, larry told the moody's I only need one.as I under stand he set a record with it in testing unofficial though. Wink

As stated in the article they own a speed shop and do a lot of boss 429 work. They are on the Boss 429 site a lot and help a lot of people over there. As for the car it was way ahead of it's time and very cool to watch. The engine looks awesome too!!

Thanks for that link. Great Article too. That car is definety before it's time. Gene Deputy probably scoped it out, as well as some of the other Turbo Guru's, back in the 80's. The exhaust system is also something else to consider in the era that it appeared. First time I have ever seen the car, and I would have definitely would have remembered it.
