do the ati balancers need the spacer like the i/w balancers ? i am trying pick out a balancer for a 557. from what i have read ati, ford racing, and i/w are all good products. i noticed ati had a few different balancers. some were little over 6" o.d. and some little over 7" o.d. so what is the benefit of one over the other ? also noticed they had 3 bolt holes for the pulley.  dont most ford pulleys have 4 bolts. or was that a generic picture.

I believe the three bolt pattern will use big Chevy pulleys and it will still use the spacer.

The I.W. unit for the std long snout are 4 bolt.....the ones for the shorter Boss style snout are 3 bolt chevy patterns.

timing chain and it's a probe rotating assembly (crank is built by scat i believe) so I think it's long but not sure. Haven't got it out of the box yet.

So the spacer is used with all of the balancers ? What is the reason for 6" and 7" diameter balancer ?  Bigger balancer absorb more ?

Do all of the balancers take a after market timing pointer ? Or can a factory pointer be used ?

The I.W. short snout dampers do not use a spacer...the only one that I'm aware of that does not .

With the IW long snout can you use the factory spacer or does it have to be shortened?

Yes. And don't fear the aluminum.... searched high and low to get a "iron" spacer. Aint worth the headache.
