Trans was rebuilt this past winter had all gears beginning of summer. Trans in behind a 557 with a-heads 4500 stall 4x4 with dana 60's and 4.88 gears running 35 inch cuts in high range. Fluid looks good. Any ideas of what to look for before pulling it out? Thanks

check the servo , if it's a molded rubber on the sealing lips could be blown off ,which dumps second gear pressure and the servo release is also 3rd gear

Not trying to hi-jack, but I had a similar problem this weekend.

Frank,

I had 1st and 3rd, but no 2nd. Could the servo bleeding by also cause this? The truck hooked great in 1st, but a shift to 2nd kept it in what felt like 1st, then a shift to 3rd and it hooked really hard again. I figured I lost the band, but who knows now.

Can I snake another band around or do I gotta pull the whole thing apart? Probably should do a freshen, but no time before next race.

ok, another question. Broader offers a 2" rigid band they say is for applications over 500hp (and I'm way over that) and a carbon flex band with no info. What is the better band that will last?

Got it. Ordered that and all new Alto clutches/Kolene steels. Might as well do a full freshen on it if I'm going in anyway.

Another update. Frank was right on the money. The band looked like charcoal and it scored/blued the rev/high drum. So much so that the outter edged of the steels turned blue!  However, all the other clutches/steels (low/reverse and fwd drum) look almost untouched in new condition. Surprised me, but I'll take it. My engine machine shop asked about turning the rev/high drum outter surface down to get rid of the scoring. Prob take about .010-.015 to clean up. The question is, is it worth doing this or should I just get a new drum?

edit: I also forgot, some the springs in the reverse clutch piston were layed over like ) all in the same direction and not every spring was there. I didn't build the trans the last time, so is there a reason to not have all of the springs in place?
