Can you run ~1000hp through dual 4" exhaust without losing a bunch of power?
Is it even feasible? Thoughts and ideas? This will be a full time exhaust system not something to be removed at the track, oh and the engine makes this power at 8000rpm. I know 4" is probably not ideal but that is what size the collectors are.
I am thinking X-pipe with maybe a Dynomax or Magna flow bullet style mufflers.
Only responses from people with experience please.

Did you have an h or x pipe installed?

Nope...just a crude 3.5x4 reducer off the collector.
I am hoping to re dyno in a few weeks with my full exhaust and X pipe though if itll fit tge dyno.

Well,......
My engine is just a hair under 1000hp and FWIW,........I'm using mufflers. BUT,.......it wasn't dyno'd with them.
This is what I'm running,.......
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mpe-14163/overview/
BUT,...
I've always ran some sort of muffler on it, ever since I built the truck.
IMO,......A real good, free-flowing muffler isn't going to rob you of much hp.

I am running 3" Borla Mufflers, they open up as if they were not even there at 3000 rpm. PLUS, they keep me under the 94 decibels to get on the dunes. Tried flowmasters and a couple others, but the Borlas are X150% the best. My motor actually runs better and I am faster with them than with nothing at all.
2-1/4" headers to 4" collectors then reduced 12" past them to the 3". Sorry, no H-pipe.

I'm with ya but it will lose power. Maybe not a ton but a few. I guess just more pill lol.

is have to disagree with that. Not with the right headers.yellowhorse7 wrote:richter69 wrote:fender exit ftw.....

I won't put another set of headers underneath a racecar for several reasons:
1. My ears don't ring after a pass.
2. Ground clearance.
3. Easier to route primary tubes.
4. A wounded engine won't oil the slicks from the collectors.
5. Look cool.
If you need to run mufflers, ignore this post.

headers exit under the sb car, real hard to see the flames come out ....... the Grande' exits the side...... flames easily visible lol

All depends on if the combo in question needs a long primary, & if the fender exit will let you have the length primary needed.

Re: Can you run ~1000hp through dual 4" exhaust without losing a bunch of power?
The headers are not ideal for the engine because they are over the shelf headers. A custom header would surely add some power. My thought is the x pipe will help with the scavenging and make the engine think the primaries are larger than they actually are. I am sure that effect will diminish at a certain rpm.

Re: Can you run ~1000hp through dual 4" exhaust without losing a bunch of power?
Anytime you add a restriction youll lose power. X pipes dont scavenge as much as they equalize pressure. Ask yourself how bad you want a street car and choose accordingly.
Re: Can you run ~1000hp through dual 4" exhaust without losing a bunch of power?
Much thought and planning is going into this. I have called a few professionals who deal strictly with exhaust and general consensus is that I may gain 10-15lb/ft of torque in the midrange but will probably lose almost identical amount of horsepower at peak.
I have not ruled out adding dumps in front of the x pipe at this point in time for the track.

I hope those professional s have been faster than mid 10s. Why ask the question if you already have the answer. Possible and ideal are two very different scenarios.

Your twisting things around, I called a few exhaust companies after I made this post. Not local exhaust shops.

Might lose something on the Dyno, but you won't notice it on the track or street. Some of you guy's kill me,you will lose sleep at night and spend thousands of dollars on parts that don't mean anything. I don't mean too be harsh, but it's true.

Yes and no. I'd sacrifice a few HP for ease of maintenance but never for "whats cool". Example, I like front exit headers because the trans maintenance is 100x easier and not because it's the latest craze. There are some, like the old Pro Stock guys, who couldn't even fathom losing 2 HP just to make something easier. Depends on your druthers I guess....

I agree. The ProStock guy's and the Class competition guy's need that little xtra to stay even close too the competition. But for us that don't need it,it costs lots of muhlah to keep up w/latest trend and wasted hp you will never notice on the street/track.

Re: Can you run ~1000hp through dual 4" exhaust without losing a bunch of power?
I may need to clarify some things. I do not plan on daily driving this thing. Yes I will drive it on the street occasionally at most 5-10 miles at a time.
I have recently gotten a great otr job thanks to Jason. I am only home every twelve days and I am not going to dedicate all my home time to trying to race in a class I have two beautiful kids that I need/want to spend time with.
I have added a glass windshield and power windows back to the car for street use (class a cdl to protect).
I love the front exit headers for all the reasons mentioned but I absolutely hate bullhorns and this will see the track which requires them, unless I can make them a bolt on deal.
I plan on doing some grudge racing on occasion.
