I've actually thought about that,it's illegal in Ohio but what the hell, theft is too and they don't prosecute those bastards.

Re: Some SOB broke into my shop
My side door is metal but if I did that I might forget about it and zap myself . My next line of defense is my fence. I have about 560 ft of 25 year old privacy fence around my backyard that is falling apart and has seen it's better days. My plans are to replace all of it with a new privacy fence, but on the inside top edge there is going to be a wire that is charged with one of those transformers for livestock . So when they grab on to climb over, they'll get the surprise of their life . That's a little further down the road though. The day I discovered my shop was broken into I was having my 32 year old HVAC system replaced with a modern and way more efficient heat pump.

You have to question why they left so many things of value. Did they get scared and run off? If so, they may come back for the rest. I wouldn't hesitate getting things buttoned up.
I also purchased a alarm system thru honeywell. Check there website and look at the sensors they sell.
http://homesecurity.honeywell.com/home_security.html
They sell a beam sensor that shoots a invisible beam across your property. If the beam is broken, a alarm is set off in your house. You could put the alarm at the house and a beam from your house to the shop... That will give you a heads up when they step on your property. http://www.security.honeywell.com/hsc/products/intruder-detection-systems/sensor/index.html
The sound of a pump shotgun racking a shell in will send anyone running for their life!!
Again, if you need any help or have questions, just PM me..

Tom,
Exactly what cameras did you buy and related stuff? I need something for my shop. Some IR good stuff for the shop and some not as good for the pool.

Hi Dave
My first camera was a ACTI E77. I bought this because they were on sale.. The daylight picture is as good or better than what you see in this video. Not happy about the night vision. Good for what you want to watch during the day. People coming up to your front door, kids getting home from school, etc.. It comes with some kick ass software that allows you to monitor the cameras through your phone and computer. You don't have to pay someone for the service, you use your own computer and cell phone.
I read a lot of police blogs and it appears most bad guys break in during the day when everyone is at work. They knock on the front door to see if anyone is at home pretending to sell shit. No answer, they move to the back yard and kick the door in. Grab N run deal out here. They put flyers on your door to see if you pick them up. If they are not removed, they think no one is at home..

Ordered some better cameras for night. I will let you know how they work.
If you need any additional info or help just ask.

German shepherd.........
forget the security systems. Any home with a dog or a big dog (shelpherd, pit, rottie, etc) the perps will drive right by and find a easier home to break into...

ask anyone with dogs.
Perps will go right past your place and find another place much eaiser to hit...
I have Three DDR German sheps, the UPS folks are nervous about driving down my driveway.
Plus the dogs are apart of the family...

Agreed, but a lot of us travel too much to be able to take care if a pup or two.

Re: Some SOB broke into my shop
I can't argue the fact of a couple big dogs being a good security system. If you don't mind the land mines in the grass or the possibility the UPS guy gets bit by that security dog.

I do agree.. As we speak im in Louisville at our LAP plant doing some TT updates.
Good thing i have a great girlfriend that stays with my boys...
in the end, you can do all the security you want ( dogs, cameras, alarms, and so on ) if the bad guy wants your shit, he will get it. we can only try to make it as hard as we can for them.
220v on the metal door sounds like the best plan....

Ive also used a vice-grip or c-clamp as well.
I know what you are feeling Doug. You feel violated inside. Its the worst feeling. Had a break-in at my old place. It was local kids. you could tell by the shit they took.
For those looking for trailer alarm systems. google Tommy Johnson Sr. I was told he is doing alarms now since he sold his racing equipment buissnes in Nebrasca. I think he is in North Carolina now.
Good luck getting things taken care of.
Regards.

Re: Some SOB broke into my shop
Well, I did figure out what else is missing. I went out to add the dead bolt lock on the side door and my Dewalt 18v drill is missing. Went looking for my Ingersoll Rand 1/2" air drill and it was gone. Started looking for other stuff that I use a lot and my brand new Rockwell mini saw and Cobalt air ratchet where also gone. Now I'm really pissed I'm sure there's other stuff missing, I just haven't noticed it yet.
