If you have a jacked up dry sump pan or big kick out on the starter side you may have issues with the stock unit.

Mark, my 557 has 14.5 comp, it has a db electric hi torque starter with 1 12v battery.starts great now.If he runs a locked out dizzy or crank trigger, he will need a timing retard @ intial start.

Rick,i think his initial timing is 20-22 degrees not sure though.I'll have to ask him this weekend,he works 1st shift i work 2nd shift.

I run this same setup on my 14.5:1 488. Even with the start retard, I get the motor spinning the hit the switch for the ignition. Starts every time, no issues with the db electric starter.
