Junkyard dog
I'm putting together a all used parts( other than gaskets ) 460ci combo all parts will be CHEAP or FREE from board members and friends.
Parts I have:
D1VE block stock bore
Full set of EFI pistons on truck rods
Front sump oil pan
A comp hft cam can't remember specs
Efi timing set
Stock main bolts and head bolts
Parts I need:
Rings
Bearings
Intake
Carb
Distributor
Heads
Gaskets
I will post pics when I dig all the parts out and get them from sources.... I will put this engine on the dyno so we can see just how much power can be made with really cheap & free parts with ford crank, rods and pistons... then we will throw a small shot of nitrous to it

Re: Junkyard dog
We gotta have the cam specs. to make it any fun. If they are under 230 it probably won't start you know.

https://www.429-460.com/t23312p60-cam-change-what-to-expect Call Straub and see if he will cut a cam for the experiment. It would make for a cool test if you have the dyno time.

Re: Junkyard dog
I'm not going into custom stuff with this just because I will let the young guys assemble it. I want cheap stuff so no dumping $ into stuff and they can see how easy it is when shopping around for decent parts.
But mostly how to tell if they are getting usable parts not just some junk that is out of spec..

Sounds like a pretty cool deal all around, and glad to see someone still playing with factory iron. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Re: Junkyard dog
The cam is a xe274 grind 230/236@.050
we can make around 450hp with the right parts selection and a good dual plane with a 850 carb.
I will start digging parts out this week I have some that are out of spec and some that need lots of work to be usable but this is where the fun part starts cause I will check them all my self then let them check them and see if they can pick the best usable parts and let them pick cam and heads to make the power.

Might as well run that 274 since you have it and see how it does.

Just a update
I will get pics this weekend of all the parts so far..
The block will need to be bored and the crank turned so that will be the biggest expenses just going to get some 40 over pistons and prolly a set of PRO COMP heads just to loose some weight.
This will be backed up with a c4 3000 stall with 4.30 gear and a 28x10.5 tire and all this is going in a 1986 mustang convertible..... Car pic to come

The pro comp is no race head and needs lots of work to even compare to DOVE heads with little work.... JMO on pro crap

D1 block 30 over
Dome top pistons on truck rods
Stock crank turned 10-10
Dove heads with screw in studs and guide plates
Solid flat tappet cam

What brand Pistons? What fuel are you planning to run? What intake do you have? Very interested in this build as I hope to do something similar shortly.
