Re: Stroking a 460 and dove-c heads
here is another tip go to this sight and pay Scotty $25 and get access to his dove-c porting tips it will save you lots of head aches, it will show you where to remove and where not to touch the ports and short turns.... cuz if you do it in the wrong area you turn a set of dove heads to scrap metal in a hurry....

There is nothing wrong with the DOVE's, but the D3VE heads have a larger combustion chamber to make it a lot easier to do the pump gas deal. DOVE's are 75cc+/- and the D3's are 95cc +/-. D3 castings are cheap and easy to find. You will be able to get a pump gas friendly 9:1 without going to extremely deep dish pistons. I have a 4.5" stroke 4.42 bore for 552ci with flat tops -5cc for the valve reliefs and DOVE heads@ 75cc's I am at 13:1+ CR. You will need a very deep dished piston to drop to 9:1. With the D3's and a 95cc chamber a shelf -22cc dish you will be there.

thanks thats really good info and what i been looking for, my main thing is with stroking the d0ve's combustion chamber sized being so small 75.8cc and i need pump gas 9.5:1 max so i may be switching to the d3's..
what are the d0ve-c's worth if i sell them?? they have after market springs n such already i ned to find out what else if anything has been done to them.. just a about price range, or maybe i could trade these heads for some d3's idk yet
thanks,

Talk to Mad Porter Scotty J, he may do some trading with you for a set of his D3's. The DOVE's are a desirable head and he may want your castings.

Re: Stroking a 460 and dove-c heads
Not to resurrect an old post, but Carl here (www.carsbycarl.com) put together a nice stroker using my ported Dove-Cs. My 4500 lb car with a C6, 2500 rpm torque converter from Scott as mentioned, and 3.5s moves perfectly fine for street use.
Re: Stroking a 460 and dove-c heads
I wonder where this ever went. If you don't want to spend any money I would just buy some SCJ's from Lem and build a 460. The Ford Crate motor made 540ish hspr didn't it which is right where he wants to be anyways. Heads and pistons is all you need. Sounds like a good junk yard magazine article.
