Front drive distributor for BBF
Has anyone run one on their BBF? I have a custom bracket already, so can I just run one for a BBC? Looks like MSD only has them for SBC and BBC.
Re: Front drive distributor for BBF
You'll have to make a spacer made to go between danny bee cam washer and your dist drive pulley.
Then just mount the distributor where belt is straight and tight.

Contact Keith Fulp, He had a piece at PRI that bolted to front of Danny Bee drive to spin the distrib.

Thanks guys. KFM it is.
Re: Front drive distributor for BBF
Thanks guys.
Yes the front drive distributor is all figured out. The one in the picture is for a Mallory distributor that the Danny
Bee shop had on hand. I believe that unit is now obsolete and the MSD distributor kit will be the best part to use. I have the bracket all figured out and CNCed the first one a few days ago. Currently, I have to buy a MSD Chevy kit and toss the bracket. Hopefully I can work a deal to have MSD provide a kit with no bracket....but I may have to buy a few to get that done.
The small parts are all in stock....drive mandrel and such.
Next step is to dyno test the setup and then put one on the 618 for my abuse. It will be sporting the setup at Hardinsburg.
I will post more info as I get it.
If anyone's interested, just give me a call at 678-458-2033 for more details.
Thanks!

Re: Front drive distributor for BBF
So from this pic it looks like I have the single bolt coming off of the Danny Bee belt drive. I already have a bracket, but nothing else.
I will call you in a couple days to get it from you -- thanks for the help.

In most of our cases, it is because it looks cool and may provide a little more accuracy. It also helps manifold clearance.
These drives are mandatory for the Big Boys that get lots of special grinds on custom cam cores 60 mm and larger that have no distributor gear on the cam.

Keith, are you making a distrubutor plug to go with the kit?

Hey, Keith: Just a couple questions, do you have a part # for that MSD distributor, and what will your mounting kit, and distributor bore plug set me back?

The MSD Kit is #8520 - Summit sells it for $537. Hopefully I will get a better deal than that.
If your Danny Bee doesn't have the cam washer with the 3-hole bolt pattern on the front, you will need one of those ($44) and you will need a drive mandrel that bolts to it. That mandrel is $39. The belt, pulley and fasteners come in the MSD kit. I have not figured the price on my bracket and distributor plug, but it will be under $100.
Just call any time if you want to talk about it.
Thanks --- Keith

Hey, Keith: Just a couple more questions (sorry) the three holes cam washer you mentioned - is that the washer that holds the Danny Bee cam pulley in place? If so, mine only has the single hole for the pulley bolt. I see that the MSD comes with the big block Chevy mounting bracket, would I be getting your own design mounting bracket? In one of your pics, It looks just like what I would need, old style cast Danny Bee, with a 1/4" motor plate with your mount attached - cool! BTW you custom milled the back of a timing cover for me to compensate for mounting a motor plate between the timing cover, and the block - it worked out perfectly!

Yes...that is the washer that the cam bolt goes through and holds the cam hub on.
I have the part with the hole pattern.
The Chevy kit comes with a Chevy bracket...can be used for a wall ornament. You would get a KFM bracket that bolts to the BBF.
Some day...if I can swing the purchase of 5 or 10 kits, I can get the Chevy bracket deleted...at a better price.
Right now, that is all we have. MSD discontinued the universal kit.
The Danny works the same, cast or billet.
Good to hear that your other parts are happy!
Please call with any questions.

Re: Front drive distributor for BBF
I know that Keith knows this but, for the benefit of others.....the new D. Bee BBF kits come standard with the steel drive washer and an assortment of ARP 12 point bolts.

It is great to see American companies like Danny Bee constantly improving their products.
Not only do they include these upgrades in new kits, the parts are readily available to upgrade existing drive kits. Lem is a great connection for Danny Bee kits and parts.

Re: Front drive distributor for BBF
Yeah, I've got to contact Lem soon as I need the torrington bearings for one of my Danny Bee kits. Working on my 545, I had to pull the valve train apart, and couldn't get the little 1/4 20 screws out of the retainer plate without heat (damned locktite).
I got the screws out but the torrington bearing didn't do very well.

Thanks for the kind words but, it's a clear case of the value going up and the price being the same.
