Dana 60
I have a Dana 60 hp with 35 spline Detroit locker and 5.38's. It's a ball joint mid 90's I guess and has drive flanges,no lockouts. The brakes are home made stuff with small calipers, was used on pulling truck, and has had some brackets welded on and some cut off but nothing that can't be repaired. What's it worth?

Re: Dana 60
A used Detroit Locker for a Dana 60 will go from $300- to $500, so I thinking $7-900 for the complete axle.

Re: Dana 60
I was thinking with the locker and gears it should be a $1000 axle?

Maybe I am being too conservative, I don't look at the front axle pricing much. Try to get what you can out of it.

Re: Dana 60
Im just assuming its a ford front, were im at , Cal. ,, they seem to be a bit tougher to come by, with the detroit Id say an easy 1000. but end game its worth what you let it go for.

When I was into trucks, the ford front 60's were a dime a dozen and the chevy 60's were hard to find

Re: Dana 60
Dana 70s are no better than 60s, would be a waste of time.
Now if you transferred the ends to an 80, then you would be gaining something.
The 60s holdup pretty good in the front, the 70s would last no better, other than less gear choices.
You'll find no used 70 gearsets , where 60 gearsets are plentiful.

50's and 70's are pretty rare in the used market.

Re: Dana 60
the 70 has a 10.5" ring gear most of the trucks I see in prostock pulling run 70's becouse of the 60 gear failure . They share a lot of the same parts, even have the same bearing size on the pinion! I would have thought that pinion neck would be a problem but they all tell me it's the gear teeth.10.0 wrote:Dana 70s are no better than 60s, would be a waste of time.

Re: Dana 60
Slick deal with the 60/70 setup. I'm building a 609 centered front for my mud truck. Uses a 9" housing with D60 outers from an '05 F550 and up D60 and unit bearings. Will have 35 spline center with 4340 axles and 1410 joints. Strength of the 60, weight just a bit more than a D44!

Re: Dana 60
I give the 9" some thought but I was afraid it wouldn't hold up in a pulling deal. I bet 35 spline and a good bolt through center would stand it but hated to spend that kind of jack to see!kjett wrote:Slick deal with the 60/70 setup. Re: Dana 60
gears are the same. Ford hp 60 is the odd one for gears, dodge and Chevy fronts are same as rearend also. I'm trying to decide on arb or Detroit locker.samiam wrote:do you do about gears, or is the rotation not effected
