Re: Dana 60
One of the few good deals I saw for Detroit Lockers lately, and it been up for quite awhile. Looking for a couple myself but, can't score a good deal on a 8.8" or a 8.5" 10 bolt.

In my opinion, the ford "odd" design is much superior. In the front axle application, the reverse cut gears that a ford HP differential has keeps drive forces on the drive side of the gear instead of the coast side.
The drive side face of the ring gear tooth is more perpendicular to the axis of rotation. This decreases the amount of wedging force trying to push the pinion away from the ring gear. On the coast side, however, the ring gear has more of an incline plane and mechanical advantage to push the pinion away.
The ford 9" has a head bearing on the face of the pinion to combat that issue.
Also, Currie has reverse cut gear sets for their 9" for front applications.
Does the 70 have a similar bearing on the face of the pinion to a 9"?

no it doesn't ,as you probably know but do they have reverse cut gears lower than 5.38?460bronco wrote:cool40 wrote:gears are the same. Ford hp 60 is the odd one for gears, dodge and Chevy fronts are same as rearend also.samiam wrote:do you do about gears, or is the rotation not effected

Sweet, wish I could get my photo bucket to work so I can post mine. The Dually is flooded in so it will be a couple of weeks before I could pull it anyway. Probably should keep it anyhow.
