Re: Truck comparison
** Edited** Everything is mostly the same, verified countless time on Ford-trucks.com with Ford part numbers for the springs, shocks etc showing the exact same parts. Regarding the stabilizer, they seem optional depending on what package of truck you have. Mine is an FX4 and has no rear stabilizer at all. Mine is an 03 F350 SRW.

Re: Truck comparison
If the power train and the tire size are the same the gear ratios of both models will be the same.
The aux. springs and stab. bar can be had on the F250 by adding the camper pkg.

I have always wondered what the camper package entailed. Anything else besides a sway bar?
What year are you looking for Blake?

Re: Truck comparison
I would look for the best deal for the truck that you wanted and if you found that the suspension wasn't heavy enough throw a set of air bags on it and roll! Most any modern trailer will have brakes, so a run of the mill F250 is going to be more than enough unless your pulling a big heavy goose neck then you would be better off with a daully anyways.

Re: Truck comparison
This is for anew truck at work with a service bed. The F250's are loade with just the bed and tools. What I found was standar vs standard was 1100 more payload on the F350 plus block on the axle to spring was 4" 250 is 1 1/2 "

Re: Truck comparison
With a service bed the SRW F350 is the only way to go. Is the bed a 8 or 9 foot bed?
Get every friggin' HD option available.

Re: Truck comparison
Its an 8 ft bed, and the cost isn't much more. The extra rake, (higher in the back will help too when loaded).
By the time they get all the tools and supply's they carry daily, a 250 is riding low in the rear. Then if a transformer is loaded or a reel of wire, it sway city.

So, you are going with the bed delete option rather than the cab and chassis?

250's vacuum boost, 350's hydro-boost? I've had a couple of each and that's the way they were, definitely tell a difference in the feel of the pedal

I think the gas 350's are vacuum. From what I have read. Only the diesel 350's are hydro-boost.

Re: Truck comparison
I have a question no one has been able to answer for me.
I have been looking at the XL F550 & F450 and they both have a "High Clearance" option. Is this a option that raises the truck for ground clearance or is it the option to lower the truck like if you was putting a wrecker bed on? Dealer seem to think is was a lowering option, just doesn't sound right if it's a lowering option. (They have never selected that option for the chassis cabs.)

Re: Truck comparison
The only reason I am looking at the F450 & F550 is weight, stronger drivetrain and ground clearance. I don't really need a flat bed but I do need a lot of storage for chains, air compressor and I hope to get a small hyd boom to load items in the bed. Did I mention the added weight? The trucks drive and stop so much better the heavier they are. Of course I have been wanting on for 15 years now.
