WHAT'S PLUGGING UP MY FUEL FILTER ??
Good morning, guys:
I'm plagued with a frequently clogged fuel filter lately, and I'm trying to understand what's causing it. I have a foam filled Triangle aluminum cell, with a Moroso in line fuel filter. I had problems early on with aluminum chips clogging the filter, apparently Triangle didn't put a lot of emphasis on cleaning their product prior to shipping. But now I'm getting a heavy gray/ brown sludge in the fuel filter, I've had it apart to clean twice in two weeks after only 50 miles of driving. My only guess would be that the foam in the cell is breaking down, and clogging the filter. Does ethanol based pump gas have an effect on the cell foam? If so, what are my options, is there a "special" foam for use with ethanol based fuels, or do I have to remove the foam altogether? I would appreciate your comments, and suggestions.

Pull out the foam and clean out the fuel cell. I do believe it's your problem. Depending on which fuels and which foam, it may last for years or it may give you the trouble you describe. We've seen enough of this trouble that my buddies and I pull the foam out of all our fuel cells. If your sump is oriented correctly to feed under acceleration, you'll likely have no more trouble with it.

Thanks for your reply, Maverick. You've pretty much backed up what I suspected. My only concern is will I have problems with the fuel sloshing around on stop, and go?

I doubt it'll cause starvation issues in stop and go. At those times fuel demands aren't particularly high. Just don't run with a low fuel level in the cell if possible.
Side note: Our stuff isn't "stop and go"...It's all "GO"...and then "STOP'.

There are different fuel cell foams available. Some are short lived and need to be replaced often.

Hey, Dave: Fuel line was one of the first things I thought of, and I checked a couple sections, and they appear to be okay so far. The only thing I'm seeing is the "gunk" between my fuel cell, and the filter.
PS My friend, Joe is regretting not acting on, and buying the 428 CJ you were selling a while back --- you snooze -- you lose!

X50000 on the foam. Happened to me before. Pulled the foam and haven't looked back, no more issues.
