Whats the compression on a 460 crate engine ?
A friend has a ford crate engine from the 90s .This one has the a-429 heads on it the ones that say cobra jet on the ends .I intend to install a new camshaft . Where these flat top or dished pistons ? And aren't the rods a factory style instead of h beam .Just curious about the compression to give me a good guide for a cam .By the way this engine came with a blue thunder 4 v intake someone could have swapped it on there but somehow I believe it come with it.Thanks everybody.

According to my 2003 Ford Racing catalogue--10.5:1
The intake was a Performer RPM.

OR, an FRPP 4150 type Victor; depending upon which 460 crate motor.
All had marine rods and Federal Mogul dished pistons #H612P with an intake notch machined larger.

I kind of remembered they were a dished piston .My friend already has a victor intake on there we are probably going to swap for a dual plane.Just trying to get an idea on a camshaft before I get his engine .Thanks for the info.Doug

The camshaft in the FRPP crate engine with the FRPP version of the Performer RPM manifold was M-6250-A443
300/310@SAE - 234/244@.050" - .325"/.340" lobe lift - .562"/.588" theoretical valve lift -
112 separation; 107 intake center-line
The camshaft in the FRPP crate engine with the FRPP version of the 4150 type Victor manifold was M-6250-C460
310/320@SAE - 244/254@.050" - .340"/.354" lobe lift - .588"/.614" theoretical valve lift -
110 separation; 106 intake center-line.
Those cams have easy type ramps for long life - good power but, new design camshafts of that size will exhibit more torque.

The motor I used had the Victor. When that one came out here was no other options for cam or intake. I believe the different versions came a couple years later

More good info. from you fellows .I am looking at a lunati SFT 237-247 mid to high 500s on lift .As I have previously stated he already has a victor intake .He wants a dual plane I have a trick flow with cj ports I will sell him .I used his blue thunder single 4v on my drag car several years ago .It was two tenths slower than my trick flow intake .It had to go!I wish trick flow still had that intake available .Thanks for the help .Doug

A 460 crate engine from FRPP with an A443 camshaft and FRPP version of the Performer RPM intake manifold was available from 1998, (M-6007-D460; Cobra-Jet heads), all the way through 2005, (M-6007-G460; Super Cobra-Jet heads). Those options went away AFTER then.
