Z Code 390 Identification
My older brother is looking at buying a sweet looking 1964 Galaxie which is suppose to have the Z code 390 and I pretty sure that's suppose to be the 300hp version. Is there a surefire way to verify that like special markings or casting numbers?

Re: Z Code 390 Identification
Thanks Dave. They show a photo of the VIN tag that has the z code and we found out about the other location for the VIN on the firewall. I just want to be sure an engine swap was not done, like someone swapping in a 352 in it's place and calling it a 390 with 300hp. That is why I'm hoping for some identifiable marks on the heads or block that could be seen without to much difficulty.

Re: Z Code 390 Identification
Thanks Dave, now we know what to look for and where to look. The only recommendations I made to my brother for changes is to swap out the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic for a modern 4 or 5 speed auto and a modern throttle body EFI system. But to hang on to everything removed and put them in storage. It would be a great cruiser then. I think it had a frame up restoration a little more than 10 years ago, the interior has been change to black from the original Navajo Beige. I think we're going to Atlanta this Saturday to check it out.

Leave it alone and Cruze it, but I would change the interior back that would look sexy with the black paint

I agree about the interior and it still has the original Beige headliner. He would be driving this a lot so making it more mileage friendly may be a must do for him. We did have to postpone going to Atlanta. The Fish & Wildlife Refuge where my brother works is having a big Veterans Day thing going on and he didn't want to miss that. So we may be going this Thursday or Friday.
