gearing for the end of the track vs. the 60ft times
is there a happy medium in this, for my car the gear calculators are suggesting 4.11-4.30 depending on if i want to spin it another 500 rpm
4.11 was sugested with these inputs
6500 rpm
29.9 tire diameter
140 mph
how would 4.11 act as far as 60ft times vs. 4.30
motor makes about 700 lb ft of torque
(557 11:1 cr)
thanks for any advice/ inputs

Question is do you have enough hp to push that heavy car to 140mph in the 1/4? If not then that gear is not optimum.
And honestly you might need to guy more than one set of gears.
A steeper gear is more forgiving than a tall one for et.

prbablay don't as far as the hp goes, only sitting around 700, and guess i'll need a couple of sets of gears to play around with
thanks

If the converter is tight I'd start with a 4.57. By tight anything under 5200.

Just a thought, but I had luck installing a low gear kit in my C6 for my full weight '69 Mach 1 running it at 5400' elev. I did a UCC converter at the same time, so I can't say what was responsible for what but I picked up .25 consistently na and 1/2 sec bottle. 3.89's worked best for bottle, 4.30's seemed best for na previously. I now use the 3.89's with the low gear kit in the tranny. Leaves the line like it has the deeper gears in it but I can still run it out the back door without my eye twitching from the rpm's. Helps with a heavy car at altitude from my positive experience.

does a gear multiply torque ? does a gear multiply horsepower ? does the car slow down because it runs out of torque or horsepower .

what kind of weight are you sitting at 4thHorseman?
the lower first gear will end up happening later on for sure.

My car is 3400lbs. And it can't breath up here. The track is a high altitude track, and the air is typically low 7000's DA in the summer. Guys tend to run a little bit more gear up here to help get their cars up and moving. Take my combo down to HRP and the gearing setup might just blow off the slicks and ET like butt because of it. But up here it works ok.
