is it worth buying a custom cam .....73 engine 460 ,rebuilt block and heads.....8: 1 compression 95cc heads. Is there someone out there that can build me a "more power" cam?

For racing ... You have about a 1 in 10 chance that a catalog camshaft grind will be exactly correct for fitting your application; they might get close.

Randy can build you a cam yes a custom built cam will give you more power it will be designed to your engine and setup. Randy built me a cam for my 460 I had in my Ranger and it woke it up with just a cam up grade and flat top pistons took me from 7.80s in the 1/8 mile to 6.70s.

Re: camshaft
That only proves you didnt make a proper choice in camshafts from the get go. I'm absolutely not doubting Randy's ability to grind a nice cam for 460 but a 1.10 second drop! I'd be happy with a couple tenth's.

That's what I said l changed pistons with the custom cam l know he only asking about the cam my point is a custom cam for a given engine will most likely be a big improvement over a shelf cam

Re: camshaft
Just curious what piston change you made. I take it you bumped up a couple points in compression.

Yes I went to flat top pistons from the stock dish pistons I was running dove c heads home ported with a victor intake I was freshing up the engine and decided to change the pistons and cam. I called Randy and told him what I wanted to do and gave the specs of what I had ànd he designed the cam for me.
