BBF Engine Block That can handle 4.65-4.7 Bore
Hey Everyone,
Well I am pretty much looking for exactly what the title asks...which engine block options do I have that can usually handle a 4.65-4.7" bore? I would prefer to stay at 4.9BS
Thanks,
Jim

There are a few but, actually getting one these days is almost impossible, unless you are really lucky.

I am guessing that you are talking about the eliminator block? Or something from C&C?

block
most likley it would be the eliminator block only.why would you need that big of bore?the 10.320 block will take a 4.750 stroke and that would be a 638 with a 4.625 bore

While it may catch some heat. i bought a used a460 built and running as a 624. 4.7 pistons and 4.5 stroke. needs some careful machining, but is possible. realistically though premier is spec'd to 4.7 or an aftermarket aluminum that's made for it. most things are hard to find at this time.

I seen a guy on FB 385 series Ford forum who is making aluminum blocks out of solid billet, and they have machined out coolant passages too!
I think he made about 5 or 6 already, but they are not cheap....about $13,500.
I would have no problem paying that either, if I was in that realm of engine extremes!

Call C&C and Eliminator see what they can do for you.
Derick Timmer is another source for Billet stuff, but they are not cheap.

I'd try Chris Holbrook also. He has made some big engines. I know he built a billet big block years ago.

The best A460 blocks are good for 4.650". Very much a minority that will get there. Most 4.600-4.625".
Eliminator or not....better sonic check those deals if you are going past 4.650". Not all are good for 4.675-4.700"

Thanks All for the replies...also has anyone decked a 10.32 block down to 9.8 or something close to it?
one other thing for the older guys...i came across a C460 BLOCK...which has a 9.75" (i think) deck height...has anyone used one of them before?

You can safely deck it to until the upper bell housing holes start to show threads.

If your needing that, best to look for an old pro stock block. A500 stuff

Does anyone know where, or of anyone else, who might be willing to part with some old Ford Pro Stock Blocks and parts?

Charley Wescott might have some stuff he is willing to part with.
He was running the last of the Ford Pro Stock cars.

So how short of a stroke were you planning on running?
I was looking around when all the A500 and old Pro Stock stuff came up and found an old thread you started on the Bastard heads.
I think you are right when you said a sticky should be made of it. It was a great thread about some of the BBF racing evolution on cylinder heads.
As for as the A500 and C460 blocks it seems like extremely slim pickins on that stuff on the web.

Anyways like Lem said about the big bores, " Sonic Test " before you bore. Or buy used. That story Alky Pinto had on the Premier Block with water jackets between the cylinders was something else. I am not going to link it as it looked like a very isolated deal and was all made good. My main point was with new after market blocks so hard to get is be careful, as the second one did not want to go to 4.650 either and it was siamese with no water between the bores. The third one was OK. Kina sounds like the 390 to 428 deal.

Well I would say that I am going to have to go EX-Pro Stock...the size and C.I. I want, plus the HP I am looking for it will be just as difficult, I think, to make it with "normal" Aftermarket items. Plus right now, it seems like it is easier to get pro stock equipment then an aftermarket BBF engine.

Hey 390 I saw this and remembered you where hunting something similar. He claims it's a A460 with 2.75" mains and a 9.75" Deck, 4.625" bore. Probably a long shot or may be worth a look. Also has 3.9" Bryant billet crank and some ProStock type heads.
The price maybe good also as it comes with a Hogan sheetmetal intake and T&D shaft rockers. $8,500 Firm?

Thanks Supervel45...I actually ended up going with a JC50 Hemi Pro Stock Build...I am in the process of collecting all the basic parts: blocks, heads, cam cores, oil pans, gaskets, etc. I will start a new thread and post the progress soon.

Very nice. I just saw that JC50 for sale I put in the JC51 thread. 1,440 HP is impressive at 528.
How many of the JC50 and JC51 parts cross over?

1440HP is a good number, although these motors are capable of much more, it will only depend on what your budget is and your goal. As far as parts cross over...very little, if hardly any at all.
