MLS head gaskets
I’m using 18 bolt heads on 10 bolt block. Cosmetic mls. They leaked water through the unused lower bolt holes in one head. I was considering using some spray copper and reinstalling. Anybody else ever try this? I honestly don’t see how they ever seal. There is no embossed ridge around any of the water holes. But they have ridges around the bolt holes??

Re: MLS head gaskets
Everyone hyped up the Cometic MLS head gaskets. I had nothing but failures with them on two different applications. Went strait to SCE Titan copper head gaskets and they work flawlessly.
Hopefully the Cometics are better now....but anything with "LS" in its name is no bueno!! LOL

Overfill those bolt holes in the block with silicone, let it harden then cut it flat with a razor blade.

Use 10 bolt gaskets. Plug the unused bolt holes. Those holes are generally not wet.
Re: MLS head gaskets
Thanks guys. They are 10 bolt gaskets. So I take it no one has used spray copper on an MLS gasket?

So one side sealed. I would check the other side very close to try and find out if there is something going on there.
Not flat, finish not good enough, ect..

Wrong surface?? I personally have never had a Cometic gasket fail (because of the gasket) Ford or otherwise. I wouldn't run anything else. 50ish Ra. Smoother is better. If you need copper coat, you need a new finish.

Re: MLS head gaskets
It leaked on the head side of the gasket. The surface finish that came from trick flow. Both the block and head check out perfect for flatness. It could be the gasket I was using to fit the drain back openings. I wiped it down with paint thinner to remove any oil residue and fingerprints before installing. I don’t know which side that gasket went on honestly.

Re: MLS head gaskets
I had a problem with the rivet location years ago on a set of cometics I put on a 466 with some iron cj’s
It seeped around it, remove it and all was well, apparently it was enough to let it leak??

Re: MLS head gaskets
ANY moisture in those bolt hols will turn to steam while running and it will force its way past almost any gasket.
