Boss crank snout.
If a guy was going to order a crank, and decided he wanted a boss snout length, do you need a specific timing cover?

Not to my knowledge, but you will use a specific damper, not the regular 429-460 one.

A lot of people use a "small Block" length snout and use a small block damper ... it uses no spacer on the front.

Yes, OEM timing covers can be used, as can OEM balancers as well, however the crankshaft spacer needs to be shortened relative to the overall reduction of the snout length itself. As Randy noted, short-snout engines are of a performance level where a different balancer is typically utilized anyway. But yes, an OEM balancer can fit.fordmonsta wrote:If a guy was going to order a crank, and decided he wanted a boss snout length, do you need a specific timing cover?
