A thorn in his side.... And I'm lovin' every minute of it!
Well, it's come to my attention, that I've become a thorn in the side of one of the Chevy guys at the track. And I'm lovin' every minute of it. Appearantly, there's a guy that I went to high school with that is soooooo obsessed with whippin' me & my truck that he went and bought a tube chassis Camaro to put his 632 "BBC" in. It's the guy in the Chevelle that I got a red light win against in the semi's of the last race last year.
I think he's one of many that refuses to believe that my 521 is actually a 521, 'cause his 632 only runs .16 quicker than my truck. His 6.27 to my 6.43. And 9.80 to my 9.97. Well, now he's under the impression that I've gone and put my engine in my buddy Randy Shaw's tube chassis Mustang II and am gunnin' for him. Randy just told him, "No he's not! He plans on doin' it in his truck!" Which would've been the case, had I been able to sell my 521 and get the 605 done that I have in the devlopment stages as this is being typed. Case in point. After the above race, I went to shake his hand afterward, and I could tell he was furious that he went red (.002, but hey, it happens). "But" I told him, You must not have noticed the good part. Then I showed him my dandy .357 R/T and, well lets just say I may as well have thrown gas on a grease fire
Anyway, just thought I'd share this little tidbit with you guys. But, I am putting the truck on another diet and gonna just make the best of what I have for this year, and by next season with any luck, the 605 will be done.
Good luck to everybody this upcoming season, and let's do the Ford stables proud. I plan on doing my part up here. PLUS! I'm putting together a 521 for my brother Dan & his '84 GT, so there may well be yet another Ford at the track for them to cry about.

That's exactly what he's been doing. I have nothing against N2o, but when you have to spray the bejesus out of your 632" engine just to make a 521 look bad, trust me, there's somethin' wrong with with the picture. One of his excuses was always "Well my car's not a chassis car, and it's soooo heavy." Until I heard him at the bonfire last summer telling one of his "pals" that his car only weighs 3050# without driver. Which puts it about the same as my truck +80# to be exact.
What a piece of work.

I beat a Chevy jack a$$ a few years ago with my Fairmont. He called me up to the staging lanes for a grudge match. He had a late 60's Chevy with a 427 and four speed, open headers, bla bla bla. Beat him by four or five car lengths. He was so mad, he just rolled through the pits and got his wife and left.

If this is the mentality he has, when you get the big engine finished and whoop him, he'll pack it in and call it a life.

He was one of them spoiled rich kids in high school. Always had the nicest car, 'cause his parents had the money. He still has the Chevelle he had in high school, matches his race car. One of his daughters drives it in the 7.70 index class. I think it just burns his cookies that someone can do as much as he can with less to work with. But, like you said, wait til I get the 605 done.

Way to go Doug !
I never get tired of seeing a big ol' farm truck put a whoopin on a car,......especially when it's a Ford BB vs a Chebie.

When that happens here the Chevy normally puts on mufflers and street tires and never goes back to the track..................

Hey Doug, I had a little fun with some of your local boys many years back. He came up to Medicine Hat with a Camaro with a Montana plate that said something like 2fas4U or something like that. I had my tunnel rammed 466 CJ in my street driven '79 Mustang, but I hadn't back halfed it yet, and only had 9" slicks on it. Our car counts were pretty light back then, and you could pair up with anybody you wanted in time trials. I'd already made a run, but there were no scoreboards or anybody announcing in time trials, so the guy didn't know what numbers I was running, and him and his 2 buddies wanted a piece of me...bad. They pulled up along side of me, and his buddies were excitedly looking over at me, and talking lots. Did a very low rpm high gear burnout so it looked and sounded like a real slug along side his noisy high rpm burnout. His buddies were almost groping themselves in anticipation as we staged. I looked in the mirror when I pulled 2nd, and had probably 10 lengths on him by then, and by the end of the 1/8th, he looked like a toy car. These thigs only happen a few times in your life, and you must enjoy them to the fullest. I did.

Typical chevy people. They have such an attitude it makes you want to puke. It is so nice that the BBF is finally getting a decent head selection to start shutting them up.

Well, I have yet to get to line up with him in time trials, so we've never had a heads up start so to speak. But I do know that it pains him to no end that his "1000+HP" 632 can't just leave me in the dust at the stab of the throttle. Believe me when I say, things are gonna change "BIG" when I get my other engine done.
Like Blake said, he may just pack in and never race again when he has to keep eye ballin' the back of the Nuclear Banana.

What are you doing to your engine to make it a 604? Can't find the parts to make mine that big unless your putting a 4.5 crank in it and boring it to a 4.640. Think thats what you have to do to get 604. But how much can you bore a regular 429 block?
I like how he says that he needs the nitrous because his car is heavy, and your racing a truck.

604"= 4.6250" boreX4.500" stroke. Need an aftermarket i.e. Eliminator or the FRPP A460 block to go that big on bore. 4.500" stroke is easily doable in the stock block. The 4.640" bore would give you 608" with the 4.500" stroke crank.

you should put 5.0 on each valve cover!
I ran my little cleveland in my 73 mustang against a guy running a 2 door blaizer with a 427. guy kept doing burnouts infront of my house taunting me. One day i ran him down and called him out to the track. Did a second gear burnout rolled up and hit the cut outs while he was still staging. Looked over at him after he rolled up and he was staring right back at my car with a shocked look on his face
Light turned green and i left late passed him on the 1/8 and crossed the finish about 3 1/2 cars ahead.
he didnt even get his time slip, just went home.
3 weeks later i see his blaizer for sale at the local walmart.
