Mid-Plate Question Empty Mid-Plate Question

Post  Copperhead February 2nd 2010, 1:50 pm

I'm right in the middle of fabbing up a motor plates for my truck. I've already got the front one built , but on the mid-plate, I had a question. When building it, do you make the mid-plate & the seperator plate all together,....or do you just sandwich them together?

Can't buy pre-fabricated ones, because the frame is wider than what's available through the aftermarket.

My thinking was to sandwich them together as this would cut down on the fab time.

Thoughts,.........??

Kinda depends on your application.
I think most guys end up trying to use the stock block plate to maintain good starter alignment.
But the JW C4 bell I have says not to use the stock plate?

I run a 1/8 mid plate plus the stock plate on my JW PG ultrabell, works real good.

Good idea to make the hole in both plates big enough to clear the flexplate. That way you can pull the motor without pulling the tranny.

I buoght a pre-cut for my truck and it was plenty wide(78 f-150 4x4) by the time i welded tabs inside the frame rails. Also i used both the mid plate and the factory plate so the starter would be located correctly.
