mid-plate question
Got my convertor today Now time to get to work.
My question(s) is/are:
1) Since I installed a mid-plate (and front plate) on my new set up. The mid-plate was purchased from Jeg's and also came with another round plate (the same thickness as the mid-plate) I guess this extra plate is to go between the flex plate and crank and I guess you are suppose to use it to help offset the additional clearance the midplate adds when installed. Is this correct?
2) Now my engine doesn't have that factory installed thin plate they put between the block and trans. Is that needed?
3) Do I need to install this crank/flex plate shim if I'm not using the factory shim deal? Off hand I can't give a thickness size of what it is and I do not know how thickness of what the factory deal is.
Any advice or suggestions?

Re: mid-plate question
You SHOULD be using the factory shim block plate in front of the flexplate; it also locates the starter correctly with a factory Ford trans..
EDIT: The flexplate needs to be shimmed the same amount as the mid-plate thickness.

Re: mid-plate question
I don't have the factory plate on my Glide with a JW bell and haven't had any issues with the starter.
May be an issue with a Factory Trans? Bell is much thiner and set-up for the plate as far a depth is concerned?

Re: mid-plate question
You need to test fit your converotor with the stock plate. It should have about 1/4" end play to the flywheel. The thicker spacer is incase you don't have end play on the convertor,if you don't have the end play it will break your tranny pump gear. You don't want too much either,it has to be close either way.

Re: mid-plate question
same set up here, I just use the midplate, starter bolts direstly to the ultrabell.................no issues.
converter needs 1/8" min and 3/16" max, shim as needed.
