I think you would be pushing your luck if you don't look into some main caps , you are talking about in excess of 1000hp there easy.

Re: stock block 460
So let's back it down a bit, let's say that setup on a 200 shot. If I get good aftermarket main caps, would a stock block be ok with all studs and girdles. My goals is the motor above in my mustang to go 5.70-5.99 in the 1/8. Will it work or do I need to go a different route?

Re: stock block 460
Can it work? Yes. Will it last? No. You are going to be replacing the bearings on a regular basis. The caps will help, hard block will help, but there is no replacement for a good A460/Eliminator style block. Either lower the expectations, or live with the maintenance. Cheap, Fast, Reliable, choose one.

Re: stock block 460
We are running a stock CJ block 521 with factory CJ heads in a 2800 lb. 73' mustang. It has been 5.90 on motor. I think with P-51's you wouldn't need to spray to get those E.T.'s, unless you just wanted to. The block has been poured, with the 4-bolt mains. This engine has been a race engine since 1992. It has literally a couple thousand passes on it, with quite a few rebuilds of course. I'm actually in the middle of a freshen-up on this engine right now.

Re: stock block 460
Wow, if I could get a 5.90 on motor, I would not even think about spraying. I'll be honest, I figured a stock 460 block could handle alot more but evedently not. I've pounded on a stock block 347 and no problems yet. So a all motor 466 with p51 heads would be preffered in a aftermarket block? Correct?

Re: stock block 460
I think you may have misread, but you can achieve your goal of 5.90 on motor no problem with P-51 heads on a stock block. The main factor will be the car set up, stall, weight, gear, etc.
I'm pretty sure there are LOTS of guys going that fast with stock blocks...lots. I think you are, however, getting close to time you would want to consider going to an aftermarket block, especially if you'll want to spray it. People always want to go faster.
Let us know...and good luck!

Re: stock block 460
I think a stock block will handle a na 466 p-51 , but on 300 spray every pass not likely to last .
