It is a 3 piece filter that screws apart for inspection and cleaning. It will out live us both. Lets you see what the filter is catching.

For the standard type that goes on like your normal filter, about $120-150.00. A lot of money, but after you go thur 10-12 good racing filters, well, I'm just saying! Smile

No, you don't by replacement's, it a stainless steel element that you clean.

I prefer my oil to be filtered by something other than a screen door replacement part.

There you go, asking a dumb guy a smart guy question. I honestly dont know, I would guess around 150²". Not as much as a paper filter, but not designed the same either. A paper filter is built to clog up and throw away, where as the System1 is designed to clean are reuse. It traps the average size atmospheric particles and flows 20w50 motor oil, so thats about all I can say about that.

I have never noticed and abnormal particles imbeded in the bearings using this type of filter, plus I run a K&N filter in the scoop tray, so I'm sure that makes things happy inside.

The typical paper filter is around 350²" of material.

The Jomar deals have 460 sq. inchs at 18 micron. I got distracted and forgot to check my notes from the FL-1A I cut open.... as best as I can remember they were solid less than 300 sq. in. They are a great filter for what they were designed for...T-Birds , Lincolns , trucks , etc.
The FL-1HPs are a much better animal than the 1A and are what I reccomend for guys that want/need a filter with by-pass.
It is my opinion that the System 1 30 micron is okay for a race only deal......my concern after 'eye balling' one was how much area they have. I'm sure that guys like you that 'stay after' their stuff will not have any issues .

Typo or dated info.....I've cut them open they do not have 400 sq. in.......not even close. I agree, the FL1a are good filters for what they were designed for.

It's from 2000. So, yes its 9 year old info. Someone else may be supplying them now.

I have never cut one apart to measure the paper, so, just using other peoples info.

Here is a link to the study Oil Filters
