Delay box for bracket racing
I have not bracket raced in 25 years so you can imagine how lost I am. What kind of delay box am I gonna need to get started? I do not want something that is to complicated to use & any help would be greatly appericiated. I am running a trans brake & a shiftnoid, the shiftnoid is shifting off of the tach.

Re: Delay box for bracket racing
better to have a box and race for money in a class one can afford rather than sell all your shit and settle for a "street car"...............................

Re: Delay box for bracket racing
We just bought another one for our "bracket car".
Get the one with all the timers, it can also run a throttle enhancer, you'll appreciate that option when all you pull is slower cars...............

I prefer Dedenbear stuff myself, however, the K&R stuff is good, as well as the Biondo stuff. It just depends on what "bells and whistles" you want.

Well guys I guess I am a p***y, but I bet I could put bad notch on the trailer the first round. Oh wait a minute it is probably not even fast enough to require a trailer. Thanks for the help from the rest of you guys.

......Spoken like a man who has never won a buck on a dragstrip. Go to any bracket race.....The guys who knock 'em are the ones who don't use 'em. For them, the upshot is that they can use the money they didn't spend on the box..... to buy burgers and beer while they watch the race from the bleachers. It's also useful to buy gas for the ride home.

Re: Delay box for bracket racing
kinda funny the ones that do use them wont race without them ~~~
i go to the no box race as much as i can and did pretty well my forst time
its just easy to cheat with them - we had several guys down here that if one didnt win another one did - until they were caught
so how do you keep people from cheating with them ?

Re: Delay box for bracket racing
The only way you would be cheating is if you had one hidden because they weren't legal. If the box is legal then you better have one if you want any chance at winning, I don't know of anyone that can go .005 (and .005 is being conservative because you have a gimme) or better all day on the tree with a footbrake. Some people still prefer footbrake classes (like me), but I got nothing against using a box and I'm definitely not going to try and compete against one if I'm two footin it .

Re: Delay box for bracket racing
from the copy and paste king
I've heard tell that a few years back some dragster in florida ran his car so it stayed on a the chip the whole track and was deadly consistent. slower, but consistent.
Urban legend a few years back had some 'outlaw' 450 boxes or some sort of box that worked through the tach. Supposedly the tach had some sort of g meter that when idling around the pits/lanes, and on the line, it operated as a normal tach. As soon as it took off, the needle would go straight up. If it went one way, the car was fast, if the other, it was slow.
I don't know if it was the same deal, but a few years back they caught some SC racers with nitrous override and stutter boxes hooked up to something like that. Instead of looking over, they were looking at the tach and hitting a button on the dash on the top end. In theory you could hook a 3 step up with a chip slightly lower than finish line rpm to chip it out to bring it back a few hun.
Cheating or not, that's why I got away from big $$ bracket racing. There's too much money to win and not enough tech to offset it. I didn't feel cozy about it, so I quit running them. Everybody is buddies at the track in drag racing, and nobody wants to be the asshole to protest someone. Not to mention you have to specify what you're protesting.
I also think the advent of GPS technology will be so hard to police.....
