Re: head gaskets for the c-460 heads
1099 fel pro, or if your not using the outer bolts( we dont most of the time, depending on block) you can use others

M - multi
L - layer
S - steel
Is a gasket design...not a brand. Others make MLS head gaskets but unless something has changed lately Cometic is the one that makes MLS for the bbf.

Best engine builders in the world use cometic. If you are going to spray your stuff with any compression there is no other option. Just built a 632 c-head engine for Cheyenne Stanley that went 4.45 5 times with .98 60 fts on all engine on his first outing with cometic gaskets an no issues.
I use cometic on my own car and would not run anything else. I like those Wallys to much.
Oh I almost forgot didnt you make a crack at me once about my spelling. Looks like you need some help also.

Re: head gaskets for the c-460 heads
i am no expert here so take what i say how ya want
i have ran fel po's for yrs without any issues
why? well there are about half the price as cometic's
and never had an issues
so when i built my 530 A-head motor i went with felpro
well i was inspectin my heads the other day and i noticed the
steel ring on the gasket has been groving into my heads
so now i gotta get them milled 5-8 thou
so for me persoanly it will be cometic from now on
i am not saying it wont happen again but keep in mind you can reuse thease
i got a frend that has used the same set for 3 builds with no issues
so he is money ahead
just something to think about

My cometics from lem held all the way to 24 psi boost on my A-headed 533, 26 finally kicked it to the water passage. This was with 10 bolt heads also.

Re: head gaskets for the c-460 heads
yes Felpro makes a MLS head gasket for small block fords and 4.6 not one single one for the BBF 385 series..... if they leak Why not spray a small amount of spray sticky sealer to the surface and be done with it? I have had mine on and off 4 or 5 times and still seal like new...... something just Ain't right with this situation..... maybe they have to course a head surface or Block decking surface? is the only reason they would leak.....

Re: head gaskets for the c-460 heads
If they leaked, more than likely they had the incorrect surface finish on the block or head, of even both, and/or did not re-torque after a heat cycle. Cometics have been on my 598 since day one, around 14.75-1 comp., 40 plus runs with zero problems.

I'm quoting from Cosmetic's FAQ section of their website:
"What surface finish is required to us an MLS head gasket?
A surface finish of 50 RA (roughness average) or finer, is recommended for a proper gasket seal. Anything rougher may conflict with the gasket design."
To put that in perpective, go to the bank and get a brand new dollar bill. Feel how smooth that is. That kind of smoothness, or smoother, is needed for the Cometics to seal. Not every machine shop can/wants to do that fine of a finish. That is why you hear of some people having no problems with the Cosmetics, and others doing all sorts of different things trying to get the gaskets to seal. It is all in the machining.
Hope that helps,
Dave

Please correct me if I'm wrong. using the Cometic and other MLS gasket require and different type of block and head surface preping. Almost like a mirror finish compared to the more coarse finish that the felpro use.
