wont hurt it a bit, just makes the fluid hot real fast lol.
Stall speed sounds ok, it just doesn't seem to be very aggressive in the lockup dept. Is your 8" a spragless deal?
What did Lenny have to say?

Re: tested the new glide
This is an interesting thread...I couldn't run an 8"....it was too loose for my combo (which is very similar to cool's)...
I went to a 9" and all was well...60' was better as well as MPH.

what does your car weigh and do you run 1/8 or 1/4?Treeyasoon wrote:This is an interesting thread...I couldn't run an 8"....it was too loose for my combo (which is very similar to cool's)...

Re: tested the new glide
I only turn 6400 in the 1/8th, thats 121 mph, 100" rollout tire...........4.57 gear............this is at 3000#s
Lenny is the converter guy and all I just done see that slip % helping things.
I would kill to get my junk to 2500#'s

Re: tested the new glide
Lenny said he would love to sell me a converter but he just did'nt see much help, maybe half a tenth and maybe slow down.tighter would help mph but hurt 60" so its a trade off.that's the way i took it.he thought i'd be better off spending that money another direction, you dam sure dont hear that too often do you Lenny's a hell of a nice guy.most would have said "o i can fix your shit up,what's that credit card #.

Re: tested the new glide
I think my set-up is real close to yours...it weighs around 2700# w/ me...I have a new bullet for this year but, the old combo was:cool40 wrote:what does your car weigh and do you run 1/8 or 1/4?Treeyasoon wrote:This is an interesting thread...I couldn't run an 8"....it was too loose for my combo (which is very similar to cool's)...

557 A-429 heads 820 hp 736 tq, single 1150 on gas.
2x3 chassis, ladder bar, struts
32x14 M/T stiff sidewall, 4.10 gear, 1.80 glide.
Leave about 3800...shift about 6200....trap about 5800 in the 1/8 and about 6700 in the 1/4.
Best times were 5.66 @ 124, 8.91 @ 151...1.21 60'.
Usually dialed in the 5.70's 1.25ish short times.
My converter stalls around 52-5300. 9" Coan.

Re: tested the new glide
they are the same weight.that 60' is stout with a 4.10 gear too.i'm leaving at 3800 also and 1.26 60'but i'm 4.86 gear.i can't bitch about PTC at all, when i called they said they'd build me a 9" and take it down to what i want it to be for a 100$ and my old [new]converter.i think i'm gona do it.how much should i bring it down 500rpm or soTreeyasoon wrote:I think my set-up is real close to yours...it weighs around 2700# w/ me...I have a new bullet for this year but, the old combo was:cool40 wrote:what does your car weigh and do you run 1/8 or 1/4?Treeyasoon wrote:This is an interesting thread...I couldn't run an 8"....it was too loose for my combo (which is very similar to cool's)...

Re: tested the new glide
I think the stall is ok, it just doesn't seem to want to "catch up" very good...........but thats an 8" deal. Try the hygard hyd oil, its thicker..............if it helps it then you might do something with the converter.
Just seems like the thing is a bit soft................cam seems small.....what compression?

Re: tested the new glide
I can only speak from what has worked for me...I have never tried anything but the 4.10 with my 557. Before, I ran a D0VE headed 466...14-1...720ish cam...I switched from a 4.86 to a 4.10 and lost about .15 over all but, picked up MPH and the short times were .02-.03 slower...and it was much more consistant.
Once I get my junk back together, I'm gonna' start with the 4.10 and try a 4.56 and a 4.86 later in the season just to see what happens....but, I'll have the 4.10 back in it. I want to stay set-up for the 1/4 as I plan on running some Divisionals in Super Gas.

Re: tested the new glide
i found my cam card,it's 270/276@50 722 lift/108center.the compression has a lot to do with it.a460 has 88-90cc......i have flattop's that are about .008 out of the deck.i cant remember how thick the copper gasket's are but i know they were very thin.the first cam was 286/292@50 796/814 112center but with my shitty comp ratio it would'nt 60' for nothen.when i swaped it out i picked up 2 tenths.my fluid is ptc and its clear.they asked which fluid i put in it and when i said "the clear shit you sold me"he said well thats not the problem.i'm sure it's hydraulic oil.

If the carb is fairly well tuned for your engine, it's gonna pick up some. I think the 1050 is smallish. My 514 picked up a bunch when I ditched the 1050 for an 1150. Haven't tried a 1250 yet.

Re: tested the new glide
Are you bracket racing? Mine slowed .10 with a glide but mine is 3500lbs, but in four passes at TT it ripped all four within .0007 not bad on a green track where everyone was complaining about the track also 60 ft varied .0002, bring on the CheBBY's

Re: tested the new glide
i dont do much brcket racing, but i should cuz this POS is stuck at 5.81/117.9mph.i just got home from t/t tonight and i'm not happy.the 1150 was way lean so i went up on the jets a few numbers and made another pass and went 5.81/118,yahoo i'm up to 118 now if the 9" converter dont do something good the auction block may have a few more things on it.

Re: tested the new glide
stuff some compression in it, give it the cam it wants, the small bore aint helping either.
Honestly that converter should stall higher than it does, our 8" in our 306 car goes well over 6000, and yes its set up a bit different but still.
Put some power in it and the right converter it will fly..............dont blame the tranny beacause its not at fault.
Alky will crutch it.

If it's a box stock 1150, just jetting up might not be the solution. Without the proper metering blocks, etc, jets alone won't get you there. Been down that road, trust me.....

i know the tranny's not at fault,i needed it anyway,it just showed me i dont have enough grunt in front of it.lol what bore would you use?i'd love a idt block for my birthday i'd sell this shortblock to somebody that runs juice too and start from scratch.richter69 wrote:stuff some compression in it, give it the cam it wants, the small bore aint helping either.
