rotor phasing?
do you have have to cut a hole in the cap & use a timming light to get it correct with a crank trigger? Or can you line it up number one?

Re: rotor phasing?
Just line the rotor up with your number one terminal post. The beauty of the crank trigger is that you can turn the distributor housing however much you want in order to achieve the correct rotor phasing,,,,,and never affect the timing.
Hope this helps,

Re: rotor phasing?
should be able to just line it up, but to make certain you'll need to cut the hole in the cap and use a light..........or just get another like a stock cap to put a hole in. Starter savers etc can change the time and just because the magnet is lined up does not mean its wnen the coil fires.

I have ran many laps with my phasing cap. Not a big deal on a drag car. However, I also have one that is not windowed.

Re: rotor phasing?
... and also make sure you use one of them cheap timing lights .... my digital snap-on and my dial mac one has had my base timing around 27-28* .... i did a back to back test this past week and when i used the snap-on and the mac one timing was bouncing everywhere but as soon as i used a craftsman no-dial deal it was rock solid ..... also the engine sounds a little diff when you have the freaking timing correct .... and msd makes one also chuck

Re: rotor phasing?
thru testing a lot of diff lights over the years i have found sometimes the spark plug wire is TOO DAM good, try checking your timing again with a cheap wire with both lights, the killer snapon light seems to have a hard time picking up on a good wire, sounds silly i know, if it still doenst work as good light might be bad

the most accurate timing light (and I've had a bunch) that I have had is my Craftsman and the one I got from Harbor Freight. Neither was a dial back and compared to a computer both were more accurate than my Snap-on, Matco, or Actron's.
The Snap-on read 9 degrees retarded from actual and we were running nitrous at the time.

I hear MSD made theirs just for the above reasons. Buddy has one and it is pretty good.

I was scared to use it on 16v. I always run it to the 4 wheeler battery.
