So I guess that would put Beech Bend out of business then?

That will not put Beech Bend Out of business. I expect the dragstrip to only be operational for special Corvette gatherings and "club" events. IMO it would have to be something very special to put Dallas and Beech Bend out. Besides, I don't think that is their goal anyway.

Well that would be good to see but when the revenue is needed to pay for that drag strip I have a feeling things will be different. Two strips 5 miles apart? Someone isn't going to be there in 5 years.

Re: new proposed drag track in Ky
That's what I'd do......put a new track in the town of the best track in Ky.
Sounds like another not for profit deal that if/when it happens someone else will own it in about 3 years.

Re: new proposed drag track in Ky
The Corvette plant could be closed before this deal is ever done.
Futher more....the venue is a waste of interstate hwy frontage. If/when it was done it'd be better served on cheaper land.

If I may include a comment or two, thank you!
As Alan commented and I say, Beech Bend and it's owner have a lot going on, politically as well it's attractions.
As Lem commented, and as I read the article linked by Bruno, it seems to me more of a proposal or "feeler" if you will to "test the water"! The reading is exciting although when you mix in the economy, the cost of the property, lobbing of government agencies and battling the residential neighbors to the South or/and convincing those Southern neighbors Bowling Green really needs the facility for economic growth, I'm not sure everyone will lend the proposal their ear!
In addition to Lem's comment of the quality of Beech Bend, not only is it the State of Kentucky's best drag racing facility, I believe it's much better than any facility in our area! Of course there are a few of the major sanctioned race tracks that are pretty, to the camera and from the front gate, but BBRP is a great track for the racer! Where else do you find a pit area with that much pavement? Bath houses with hot showers? Camping facilities for those who don't or won't stay at event influenced motels and hotels! The kids, yes the kids, can go up on the hill to one of the areas nice amusement parks.
Boys and girls, Mr. Jones didn't get to where he's at by sitting on his laurels! He's a racer's racer, and he knows how to make it work!
IMO, and I have commented to many people I've met at BBRP about the facility ...... I feel blessed to have such a great facility so close to home!
Now, back to the proposed facility, I would think Bowling Green/Warren County Chamber of Commerce would rather have another golf course than another race track!
Just another 2 cents!
Dave.

The first year the Buick GS/GN club was in Bowling Green was 1982. They have come back every year except once and that was 1999 when they went to Columbus, OH and National Trail Raceway. Then the next year it was back to Beech Bend, and has been ever since.

98 must have been the year Dallas was going to charge them for the straw to put down so everything wouldn't be so muddy. They got pissed and went to National trail in 99.

Twenty six out of the last twenty seven years ........ ain't bad! National Trail, isn't that track East of Columbus on I-70? The track NHRA revamped in the last few years? I went to that track many years ago to attend a Ford meet, I thought how in the heck do they hold a national event here!

That's the place. Had stop lights on the road at the end of the shutdown area where it crossed the county road. We wondered the same thing!
