kidney bars?
One of the cars I'm looking at for possible purchase is certified to 8.50.
The owner says the IHRA tech inspector that certed the car stated it would go to 7.50 with addition of kidney bars.
Where are "kidney bars" in a a cage
Any pics?
Thanks

Re: kidney bars?
Yea, in the SFI books the kidney bar (#40D) is that diagonal bar the supports the front-left side funny car cage bar. It runs from under the driver door bar, diagonally back to the lower/bottom area of the main hoop.
Kidney bar might not be the best name for the bar since most people think of their lower back area when they think of "kidney" instead of their side area, but that's what they call it.

Re: kidney bars?
When did Steve die? I ask cuz the kidney bar has been in the SFI 25.1E, 25.2, 25.4, 25.5 books for many years (revised in 2002, edited in 2003). Maybe it's a deal where they decided to adapt the SFI specs (VS NHRA/IHRA specs) for the class after the fact.bruno wrote:...... they added that bar after Steve Gerbec was killed from another car impeding the drivers compartment

Well then that timeline probably does fit since the SFI 2002 revision took effect on June 14 2002.bruno wrote:DILLIGASDAVE wrote:When did Steve die? I was in O town when he made that pass, about half track during that pass. Pretty sad deal, especially when you got all these idiots running down to see the wreck talking about how "cool" it was. I knew it wasn't gonna be pretty as soon as it happened! That car went airborne 25-30ft.
