Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
i read this guys
You guys miss the whole point to the John Deer HyGARD. It comes in two viscosity's.
The normal stuff is about the same as any other brand that is on any other shelf from any business that sells the stuff, including Generic. All hydraulic-transmission fluids are made to strict specs, with anti-foaming additives and minimum of friction modifiers. The problem is, it's thicker, about 10 wt, and this is OK in some applications.
The trick is run low viscosity HiGARD p/n TY3642 comes in 5 gal pails, It is about the same viscosity (about 5wt) as regular transmission fluid and for the most part, needs no thinning.
Don't dilute it with Dextron. That stuff is full of modifiers, It is not even good for a passenger car, let alone a race car. Cant stand heat, breaks down and stinks.
As far as the color, a couple tabelspoons of dye in 5 gallons makes it bright and red, Don,t know if this company is still in business, but this is what is written on the box.

Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
so i guess they put dye in it becuase the jd fluid is clear ???? ... alot of guys that i have been talking to says it lowers there tranny temps by 25-50 degrees cooler , and it tightens the convertor up 2-300 rpm ...sounds like some good stuff

Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
Bruno it has to have the dye so you can see it on your dip stick.... or as I did I just put a quart of Mercon in it to give it a pinkish tent......
The Hygard also has a higher thermal temp range which will benifit in the racing transmission... and Yes it will tighten up the converter and make the trans a little tighter... I noticed on mine it tightened the converter up 300/500 rpm
I like the higher temp range because in these cars the trans will build up 100* every second the trans brake is engaged and engine is matted

I agree, it handles the temperature a lot better. Trans brakes build heat in a hurry and I don't always stay off the brake like I should

Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
I am not a "green guy" so I use the Case IH HyTran, mostly because I have about 30 or gallons on hand at all times. It's already red colored so no need for dyes. I love the stuff for all of the reasons stated above.

O'Reilly Premium Tractor Fluid J20C spec is the same as JD Hygard but the cost is much less.

Big Jon, your using the 115 Schaeffer, they also make the 315 which is the thinner cold weather fluid, it also has a higher heat resistance.
You can taylor your converter rpm about anywhere you want it between the two mixing.

Yeah I wonder who came up with the fluid trick lol. The stuff I'm using now is the regular syn atf, I dont need a tighter converter attm.

Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
Schaeffer manufactures a number of specialty torque converter and transmission fluid products. All of these products utilize top-of-the-line additive packages that allow them to significantly outperform conventional fluids.
#115 Simplex Torque Fluid
Universal Transmission - Hydraulic fluid ideal for most tractor and construction equipment. Exceeds John Deere, Case International, Ford New Holland and Allis Chalmers specs.
#204S ALL TRANS Supreme Transmission Fluid
Fully synthetic heavy-duty automatic transmission fluid this is recommended for use in practically all types of automatic and powershift transmissions that specify the use of Dexron III, Ford Mercon and Mercon V and Allison C-4 type fluids.
#315 Simplex Supreme Synthetic Blend
A universal extreme pressure semi-synthetic torque convertor fluid designed for use in most farm and industrial tractors. Simplex Supreme Synthetic Blend meets and exceeds the service make-up and refill needs of the transmissions, differentials, final drives, hydraulic and power steering systems and wet brake systems of such equipment, especially those employing a common reservoir or sump.
All of these products utilize top-of-the-line additive packages that allow them to significantly outperform conventional fluids.
Excellent antiwear protection for clutches, gears and hydraulic pumps

Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
Jon can you tell us which fluid will give us "x" amount more of stall ??

Re: The best Powerglide Fluid
I need to get Rich my buddy who is the oil guy on here. I think the all-trans syn atf is the thinner of the 3. The 315 I think is the thicker of all the fluids and would yield the lower stall.
We're only talking a 200-300 rpm change from one extreme to the other anyway.
