maintence finds .....
so with some of Dan's recent failures i finally decide to ck things out on my build..this will be the first time in almost 2 years im cking things out ....yes very lazy ..... the first thing that i noticed is that my valve lash is way off , im going to find a valve spring tool to ck pressure and retorque the heads as per C. Evans other then that oil pressure has been great since day 1 so i will give her an oil change and be ready for the ODRA and ORTC events
later guys

Re: maintence finds .....
time to put some springs and lifter in IMO, keep the springs for spares and send the old lifters (if they are comps) back for a rebuild and keep them for spares and use them next change.

Re: maintence finds .....
we rebuild lifters and replace rods and springs every year and will look at the valves in about 2 seasons. kind of sucks but it is cheaper than a block and messing up a bryant crank.
aluminum rods
nextek springs 320lbs seat pressure
8000-8300 rpm
the rods and springs go to local guys building NA engines.
the Maverick with a 306 bracket motor went over 700 passes without doing anything but change the oil and plugs every now and then. speed cost a &hit load of $$$$$$$$$$

LSM Tools
LivermoreDave wrote:Nick, here's a good starting point!
Dave.
Dave's suggestion of the LSM tool is a solid one.
I bought their spring tester and their on-engine spring compressor last year.
It is not often that you buy something and are 100% delighted with the performance of the product. This is one that blew me away.
They simply make good tools.
I helped a fellow 460 guy test his springs and replace all 16 springs at the track last year, using the LSM tools.
It seems like we were done in less than 1.5 hours.

Just call LSM

I would reccomend calling them direct. There are variations in the tools depending on which heads and rockers that you use.
You can get the right stuff the first time if you call LSM. 916-632-2692.
Summit sell their tools....also.

LSM Tool
The spring/Lifter brand question will be a controversial one. I can just say that my 514 has done well with Lunati lifters, but it has an itty bitty cam. It has always used K-Motion K1000H springs and when the engine was in the car all of the time, they would last about 3 seasons. (650 lift)bruno wrote:so what are the best springs to buy ? and the best lifters ?

The 605 is closer to .800 lift and it uses PSI springs from CV products the number is not anywhere close by....but it a one of their "dual drag springs".
As close as I can tell, they last about 125 to 150 passes. That engine has Crower lifters in it.
The tool in the previous picture is just for on-engine testing.
The removal tool is a different one having several options depending on your head and rocker setup. You can see them all on the site. Here is one for stud mount.

They are rather expensive, but work nicely.
Thanks,
Keith
