Should be alot of fun.
Can you fit more tire width in those wheel wells? I would think a 12.5 inch tire would fit nicely back there and help ya hook up too...

Being a short bed it should hook. I have a 67 longbed, that's gonna be tricky! The stepsides look nice with the wide wheels, I've got a styleside. I might be able to squeeze 12" in there with stock springs.

Sounds like a really cool build. Its not quite as hard as people think to make a truck hook. Only problem is everything you need is custom fit.

Re: 63 f100 stepside
That's good to hear! I still want some wide tires and a four link in my truck though, I want to loosen the suspension until I pull a good wheelstand (hopefully). I'm sure it has to be difficult with a long wheelbase truck though right? I'm just thinking leverage wise. 131" wheelbase for mine.droppedf100 wrote:Sounds like a really cool build. My grandpa has a big solid block of steel the was attached to the frame in the back of his econoline for traction. I might be putting that on there, I can't wait to see this 65 done!res0rli9 wrote:be ezzy with a lead rear bumper

His truck box looks to be the same stepside box as mine. I'm running stock leafs with drop shackles on mine and a 10 inch rim with 4.5 inches of backspace and a 29.5-10.5W-15 Hoosier tire. Rear axle is stock 1976 width also. There is still room behind the tire and the wheel tub. When I build my good rearend housing I will probably narrow it up 2 or 4 inches. The outside of the tire is flush with the top of the fender now.
My junk is pretty slow so I probably wont need any bigger tires for quite some time but I think with a slightly narrowed housing I could fit some 29 or 30 inch tall 13.5 wide rubber in my wheel wells.

rear tire size
Did you know Fairlane fiberglass co. makes rear Ford stepside fenders that are 3" wider than stock? Bolt right on. Thats what I'm running, no need to cut bed tubs. They are thick and hold up well.
