Re: DYNO PARTY!!!!!!!!!
What brand flywheel/flexplate was it...?
They should certainly hear about their shoddy counterweight attachment.

Re: DYNO PARTY!!!!!!!!!
It wasn't a faulty flywheel. The dyno hub and joint was bolted to a externally ballanced JW Wheel. Bad deal there. It rejected the dyno plate at about 7100 rpm.
I pulled the pan last night around 8:00 pm and everything looked perfect, all the rod brgs and 1-4 mains perfect, but it beat the rear main bearing out of it when the flywheel broke. I think the rear main will polish out. It didn't get hot just hammered the bearing hard.
I will take the enginge back apart vat, re-measure, and start all over with the build. The flat tappet cam broke in great all else went fine.
I just hate it for Mike I know he was really wanting to get the engine in the car.
I saw 697 hp at 6000 rpm at one time and 634 tq at 4800 so it looks like it is going to make good power. That was without any tuning, first or second low rpm pull out of the box.

Re: DYNO PARTY!!!!!!!!!
What is bad about the dyno flange being bolted to an external flexplate? Can you clarify a little more since I'm dumb to this sort of thing? Just want to make sure it doesn't happen to me if I decide to dyno my engine at the local place...

Well I'm no veteren at this either. But what I understood after the mishap a flywheel should've been used instead of a flex plate for strength purposes, cause the bolts sheared. They didn't have an externally balanced flywheel.

Ahhhhhh...
I understand. Sucks that you had to prove the theory. get it back together and hammer down with it.

Re: DYNO PARTY!!!!!!!!!
too bad Mike, hopefully the damage was minimal and you can get it back together and dyno it soon. I know it's discouraging, but things like that will happen. Speed costs!

Freelander ... did you bolt a weight onto your Boss flywheel left over from the EMC contest...?

It was Dave's fly wheel and we did bolt a weight to it , but I don't know if it was the boss flywheel or not.
We drilled two mounting holes in it to mount the 28 oz inch weight, then rebalanced it back to zero with the two holes in it. Then we bolted on the weight and balanced it again.

Brian,
You are welcome! I'm glad you all dropped by and I hope I was helpful by showing you all the different cylinder heads and explaining things. I counted 8 different styles of BB Ford cylinder heads you got to look at.

Blake ... 28.2 in/oz is the necessary counter weight for most small blocks and 410/428 FE's.
A big block 385 uses 24.2 in/oz of counterweight; (if it's the original weight off the 460 flexplate, it will probably be right).
