Crank Damper Thread Question Empty Crank Damper Thread Question

Post  BIGDOG466 December 4th 2010, 6:06 pm

I have ran up on a 514 short block I may buy looks real good but the threads look like they
are stripped about 1/2" in. I ask him did he try to pull the damper on with the bolt and he said no Rolling Eyes
I guess my question is has anyone ever tried to fix one?

If its just a half an inch don't sweat it, The threads run deep into the snout, just run a 5/8 fine thread tap in and clean the remaining threads up and make sure the bolt you use back threads almost to the end of the internal threads.

Thanks Lem, I looked for a long thread insert but didn't find a long one just wondered if someone has seen one, I could get a special I guess but it didn't look that bad. I should go ahead and get the shortblock I guess, and do the stud deal.

Will you damage the threads on the stud by pushing the damper on to the crank? maybe not if you use the roller washer from an installer tool on it?
