Its a splash tube, keeps the fuel in the carb on the launch.

I probably don't need it so much any more, since I traded gears in the rear, when I had 5.14's in it it left very hard, and now that I have the 4.30's I prolly don't need it, butI just leave it on.

Re: Tryin to get Harold in the 5's
from my knowledge of carbs on bikes they need ventilation to prevent a vapor lock situation...is this the same thing here? but carbs on bikes are feed through gravity, not a pump.

Re: Tryin to get Harold in the 5's
Back in the day of carbs and wagon wheels, we always ran a slosh tube on the vents. It is open in the middle (center of the hose) and prevents fuel from entering the carb on hard starts and slamming stops. Just gives it a little more room, and allows the car to maintain a good off throttle idle.

If the float level is right the APD stuff is set up as such you dont need it, even if a little splash of alky got in there it wouldn't hurt it as if it were a gas deal.
loose the hose and get a filter on that thing..................

Re: Tryin to get Harold in the 5's
Wish I had known you wanted a scoop that big Harold. I want to do away with the one on mine and use a smaller, (lighter) one or just use a cowl type. Mine goes back against windshield but has the front like Hobbs scoop. I think the Merc and Tbird share the same hood????
