Re: Good night of testing
spragless will hurt 1/4 mph, but not that much.
I dunno what the deal is, I dont have a dyno sheet to compare, my shit is weak and makes no power so thats what everybody tells me anyway .............might be an alky deal.........
summertime air sucks.

I went to the house at lunch and replayed my tack of the last quarter mile run. I was wrong it was about 7550 rpm, and I dumped it at the strip.
And yes the air this summer sucks..............

No I didn't let out, that's all she had............. I don't know why it's low.
i was just curious , just looking at my 2 best motor passes and my mph is a 154.7 and 156.3 , just was curious as to why

You got me bud, my old deal ran 148 and quit pulling at about 6600 @ 1000 ft. I have a LM-1 wide band I may plug in and see what the AFR is in the heat. several people said it looked fat Saturday night. I'm sure it was considering the weather. I haven't done any tuning because of the dang chip.

tight converter and tall gearing makes good mph, what did your et on those passes Nick?

How the air goes under and over a car is a big deal.......I don't know how a 'calculator' can account for that even if he is the Governor of Alabama.
Grande' for the win..........
I have a blocked grill, but it dont make that much diff.
only thing I can figure snake its in the torque converter........I dont know if your is a spragless or not, mine isn't.
Mine is spragless, but it won't make up that kind of difference between mph and rpm we have. Mine must lock up tight early
On a spragless converter the stator has LOTS of clearance and never moves and is always locked solid to the splined hub.
The converter will get to it's highest efficiency fast but, it will never get close to hydraulic lock-up either.
You'll NEVER break a sprag though ...
Re: Good night of testing
I got a spragless that must be why mine only ran 110 in the 1/4
The middle slip is mine and Blake's from bg (my first pass out of the trailer) . The others are my last passes at jackson tn and last pass at music city car #379v.
Lem and I were talkin a while ago and we are about to decide if you pull it to the track with a 7.3 powerstroke , use green oil, and injected alcohol it will run the same everytime almost.

Re: Good night of testing
A spragless converter will not be as ultimately fast as one of the same internals but, with a working sprag ... the benefit is that those converters are almost bullit proof and won't take a dump when you need it most.
A converter with a BROKEN sprag will not be multiplying torque at stall speed and will be a total dog. It is simply a fluid coupling at that point.

Re: Good night of testing
All this arguing about where the converter should be why would one NOT want to run a Lenco with a good adjustable clutch with the power level you guys are running at ? Can't be a money issue because you all are talking about tightening and loosening the converter, and the last time I had my converter out its a real pita to try and get it right on the money. Oh yeah it aint free either. Most of the NMRA guys I race with have no less than 3 to 4 converters, each have to be atleast a grand ..............just sayin I don't think alcohol or methanol would tighten the clutch up but I guess if you insisted on using it you could always wash the clutch dust out of your bellhousing as long as it was not the lubricated stuff.

that would be my choice... in a perfect world. but what kinda maintenance and set-up knowledge is involved in all that?

Re: Good night of testing
I only have 1 converter, it has a sprag, and it aint broke.................
I also run methanol alcohol, injected, with a little whiff of Mr Frosty for good measure.
I run stud mount rocker arms, Ti intake valves, green oil (and teeth), a not so pretty oil pan, W tires,.............and pull it all with a 7.3................and my wife says I have a big caulk.
shoe program ni@@a................

Re: Good night of testing
Seems to me that there IS A LOT of guessing at what the car wants and needs with the automatic be it a 2 or 3 speed, brand x or blue oval, most already seem to have some sort of data aquistion or logger, so a drive shaft sensor could be tied into that and tell clutch slippage at the beginning, middle or end. And the infinate tuning of the clutch or shift pods of the Lenco could make the car faster all together even though it is a power robbing tranny it is also almost bullet proof and idiot proof.

Re: Good night of testing
last week tnt i put a spragless 9" "00" ptc converter in my car, which is as tight as they make a 9".last time it was in the car it went to 5000.i had a 8"ptc "01"that was in the 5800 range, with a sprag.the 9" 60'd the same, mph'd the same and ran 5.50 as the 8"went 5.47 the week before.the air was a little worse friday night so i'm call'n it a wash.i'm still running out of rpm before i do track so now i have a 4.57 gear ready to go in this week. if this little motor lives till i get the other one ready i may dyno it just to see where and how much tq it makes.

you will really only see the negative of a spragless in the 1/4 mph, just seems thats how it is.

I have a 9 inch "00" spragless in mine it goes 6000 on the break.

I "had" that same converter behind my A-head 598. It went almost 6500. Too loose. Got a 9" FTI now that goes ~6050 it was worth .10 and 1.5 mph over the PTC with zero changes to fuel system, timing etc
