I was bored this afternoon and decided I would clean the nitro residue out of the engine from last night and put it on q-16.

Its seems to have great throttle response idle egts running in the 860-880 range seem to be the best, might make a pass on it in the near future . lol!

Sounds great, revs fast too, very crisp sounding, when do you think you might go to the track?

that's all right if the gaz nazis will accept me. lol!

made about a 3 second 2 step hit with a 4600 chip in and egts were around 970 degrees a little phat as I suspected. Gonna make one with the chip out later and see what it says.

made a hit with the chip pulled it stayed rich , converter flash about 1000 rpm short of methanol but kinda what you would expect being that rich . Lots of cylinder to cylinder difference on egt heat, plugs and egt probes read the same as the egt. I am not sure if this is directly related to the manifold runner lengths , but acting about the same as methanol on the cylinder to cylinder richness and leanness. The egt temp difference is a lot more severe with the gas though.

They may come more inline as the temps come up and cylinders lean up.

I done a little more tuning this afternoon. I understand Fabio is not interested in garage tuning but I see it as a necessary step before I flat foot it on the track Razz . Anyway I started out with a 130 pill and have now leaned out to a 140 a little richer than Mr Enderle;s base tune up recommendation. The egt's are still a little on the rich side as expected , with still cylinder to cylinder difference which might require some individual nozzle changes which is no big deal.

I will say up front I am by no means a gas man , but I am very encouraged by the rpm this thing is hitting the converter at especially being this rich. Its flashes the converter to about 6350 on methanol for comparison, I made a short dry hop with it and it is very very responsive. I included a short video of starting it and the normal prime up/ lean start of a fuel injection engine and a few little whaps of the throttle.

when you get as many passes on your p-51 engine as I have on mine I will take that verbal abuse but I ain't no internet test n tuner so you might as well get past that little britches Smile

Nick its probably a combination of mechanical injection being a little sloppy as in it sprays fuel all the time instead of at a precise set crank degree and it being way rich. The manifold is not perfect because there is no possible way to make a single carb manifold perfect for every engine out there , but it is in my opinion the best manifold available for a bbf in other words a victor will be way more off cylinder to cylinder .

I pulled another test with the biggest relief pill I have and it evened up the cylinder to cylinder quite a bit. The logger sometimes does not agree with the tachometer and in this case I verified it because I felt like I was getting much closer on the tune. The logger said 6500 on the t brake and the tachometer said 6250 . Either way I am very optimistic that the Q16 will flash this converter as high or higher than methanol of course a fair test on the track will tell the entire story.
