dry sump and vac pump
i have been planning on buying a dry sump and vac for my motor the past few yrs
but i keep on spending money on other areas of my truck
i hope to possibly save up enof this winter to do so
my question is
is it a wast of money? and when dose it become a good idea to run one?
my motor see's no higher than 8000 rpms
i currently run a kasse oil pump and header vac's
seems to work well
i do like to idea of a dry sump and vac pump possibly keeping my oil cooler between runs
and would it help the wear and tear on a motor

IMO they are worth the money and some power.
It comes down to money..... a good system isn't cheap.

IMO , money would be best spent on other upgrades .
yes for the cooler oil . how hot is your oil getting ? a good header pan evac can pull enuff vacuum , so little gain over a pump

Re: dry sump and vac pump
as we all know truck pulling is very hard on motors
oil temp is a big concern for me. some times i gotta make a run back to back within 10 min
or less
and i like the easy oil priming after the truck has been sittin for a few days
i do belive it will help me and help keep the motor in good shape

For all the pluses, whats another couple grand, some space, and a little extra weight...especialy if you have a nice motor with high dollar parts...

Re: dry sump and vac pump
i wouldnt say i have a high dollar motor
i good motor thou
and i wanna keep it good
i can sell my wet sump set up and recover some cost
that is the nice thing about a pulling truck
plenty of room to add stuff

Re: dry sump and vac pump
the bad.... it adds weight
good, oil lives longer
good, engine runs cooler
bad, tuffer to change oil
bad ,cost
good, prime before every start if you want
good, no reason to warmup engine
good, makes more power, everytime
good, oil stays cleaner
its a pain to switch to a drysump the first time but well worth it, noone ive ever switched to one was sorry, nether will you

Re: dry sump and vac pump
Another plus is it takes a big load off of the distributor gear and the timing is more stable.

Re: dry sump and vac pump
8900 thats it lol
some guys around here run 9500+ on some bbc's
it seems that the bbf's dont need to run that kinda rpm's to get the same wheel speed
but i am planning on running this thing to 8000+ i mosty run it around 7800 now
but a few more hund rpms would be nice

Re: dry sump and vac pump
yea it is crazy the rpm's some guys hit
my class has a 530 cid limit with a single 4500 carb
the class were you see 10,000+rpms
is usually classes that have a 480 cid limit but not much else for rules
so they do a real short stroke with a big bore
my class hit's high enof rpm's as it is
that os why i am thinking about doing a 700 cid+ motor in the next few yrs
those guys seem to hang around that 8k mark

Re: dry sump and vac pump
i do notic that alot of the 480 motors that run 10k+ do fall on there face at the end on a good sticky track
maybe good hp numbers but no so good tourq?
