Doug Rahn wrote:Good memory Rick! Mine is the 4 bolt unit. Just before my engine was built, Peterson didn't have a Ford 4 bolt unit. So Phillip had me ship my damper to them and they made a prototype for me, hence why mine is not black anodized. Nick I have the Peterson Wet/Vac pump and pull about 8-10" of vacuum with two -10 lines to the lifter valley. Works good.
Where did that 4 bolt alt pulley come from?

Is that with or without a vacuum regulator?
I picked up a remanufactured one from Aerospace real cheap, but it's the pump only, no reg, mandrel, pipe or fitttings. I'm really just wondering if a reg is necessary.

Re: vacuum pump ?
Bruno, this is chip. I also went with the star pump the sportsman unit is what I use on my 557 and it works perfect with a little overdrive. I also use a dryer and a separator both because steve @ star said that their pumps unlike the Moroso or GZ need little to no oil pulled into the pump. I pull 10 @ 7100 rpm thru the traps.

Billy Glidden did an engine build for a magazine several years ago, and went with a vacuum pump on the dyno to see what sort of MAX hp the combination would put down.
Back to back testing showed on the big small block that exceeding 14 inches vacuum in the crankcase collapsed the oil mist and caused HP loss, most likely through increased ring friction. The test was regulated at 11" of vacuum and made most HP. I don't remember if the combination was put together with low tension rings or conventional rings. Article should be able to be found referenced on the interweb, it was a build with Billy Glidden and Jay Allen.
