429 SCJ engine number location?
I have bought a 1970 429 Torino SCJ and I'm told the engine number is on a tag not stamped on the block. Can anyone shed some light on this ?

I think that the tag they are talking about should be under the coil mount bolt on the inlet manifold. Very few are actually still there after this long though. Not many Fords from this era had engine numbers at all. If you can't find any, stamp the VIN on there yourself.

I think I read somewhere that Ford started puting the stamps onto blocks in around 1971. I've got a D1VE that is stamped as Coug said, on the drivers side back of the block. My 1966 FE engine has nothing on it at all.

Thanks everyone for your help. The car I've bought has only 18,000 miles on it and still has the tag.

A debate is not my intention ..... but, a 1966 Fairlane GT I sold several years ago had the complete VIN stamped on the block and transmission. I don't know how, who or whatever, it was just there!
Dave.

If it is on there, I couldn't find it with the engine in the car. Ended up stamping it on myself where it could be seen.
