Re: Project EconoTow
Played hooky from work today and spent the morning out in the shop. Rod ends for the front suspension came in so I put those together and the Prowerks tight radius donuts I ordered came in also, so I finished up the headers for the passenger side.

I wish , but no turbos . They're pointed forward to feed the stacks that will run up behind the cab.69F100 wrote:Hmmmm looks like the headers are heading out the front you putting a turbo on it to.

Re: Project EconoTow
I may have something to post up tomorrow. Yesterday I had a bunch of aluminum angle and channel delivered so I could start on the aluminum fixed deck behind the engine. Here's screen shot of the drawing. The quick mount for the Curt Q20 Fifth wheel will be down in a 4" deep well with lockable doors so there will be a clear deck when the Fifth Wheel is not in use. There will also be two large storage boxes on each side just in front of the rear axle.
Re: Project EconoTow
I got as far as I could go, ran out of C clamps to hold things together . One day next week I'll have to make a run to AirGas and get some fresh bottles of Argon so we came Tig what I have cut and fitted. I also took a close up of the well I spoke of for the fifth wheel quick mounts. I can't wait to see it clad in polished aluminum tread plate.

lift plate
Doug this thing is awesome. I need a new tow rig. I'm thinking about making a heavy hauler and using a fake Amish buggy 4 seater for the cab. Btw where did you come to find an engine lift plate? I think I may need Santa to bring me one. Thanks Jesse

Thanks!
The pivoting lifting plate comes from Mac's Tie Downs, http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/category/24 It's the best one I've ever used, and I've had them all.

Just stumbled on your project. Very nice! I also see that you live in springfield. I live in Richmond Hill, and work in Rincon. One of the Rahn klan huh ? Gotta be about a million of you in Effingham. Haha. Anyway, nice work, and will keep watching.

I made some progress today making the side boxes on the passenger side of the fixed deck. I have 18 days off next month for Christmas so I should get even more done.
Re: Project EconoTow
I completed all of the frame work on the passenger side this morning, including the stanchions to support the deck. I have to get a couple more pieces of angle to start the drivers side. I also have to get the wheels and tires so I can set the fender extension width and then fitting the aluminum tread plate will come next. It's staring to look like something now.

Doug, does Ga have any kind of motor vehicle inspection process that this truck may fall under?

Re: Project EconoTow
Glad to know that you won't have to worry about that. Truck is looking real good.

Doug it looking like it is coming together nicely, I notice your link bars for the rear end the bolts the way you have them might be a pain if you have to remove them after you get everything mounted. Might wont the bolts put in from the inside and the nut on the outside you might have already seen that.

Re: Project EconoTow
You've got a sharp eye there to catch that . I saw that myself when I was welding in that corner. I added that to my notebook when the time comes for final assembly.69F100 wrote:Doug it looking like it is coming together nicely, I notice your link bars for the rear end the bolts the way you have them might be a pain if you have to remove them after you get everything mounted.
