Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
The out riggers are 2x4, .090. Right now, they are just welded to the frame as shown in the sketch that was in the kit. I am thinking of running a tube between the outriggers on each side to stiffen them up. Is it needed?
Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
No it its not needed unless you removed a bunch of the frame crossmembers.

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
Got the steering done on the project and welded in the passenger door bar. Then we took it down off the jack stands. First time the wheels have been on the concrete in several months. lol Next we concentrate on the firewall and dash while waiting on my custom master cylinder adapter to be done.
Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
an X between the rear down bars is a good idea. Also wouldn't hurt to put rocker bars so it will certify if need be.

The last reply on page 5 from BigBlock2000Ranger says ".......As long as you don't modify the firewall at all or the floor in excess of 6' you do not have to run a rocker bar." So since I am not modifying the firewall (only filling in the oem holes) Do I need the rocker bar? Also, if it is needed, can I weld it in below the floor? I can easily attach from the front outrigger to the rear.
On the x brace, is there any thing specifying the angle of the bars or the length? I'm not finding it in the rule book.
Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
They can be any length because they are not a requirement as the rocker bars aren't either. Not for an 8.50 cert. Being a truck you would be surprised at how little it takes to make it a 25.5 cert. If anytime during your cage install you don't understand something don't hesitate to call NHRA tech I had a bunch of questions because the way some of the rules are written and they had no issues answering my inquiries.

Thanks Eric,
Got a little more done last night. Converted to manual brakes and got the intake tapped for injectors.

I know when I was building my truck I didn't have to run the rocker bars but had a few on here and the other site sub jest that I add them for future upgrade so I went ahead and added then, a lot easier than having to pull things back apart and adding them later on. I thought about it on a safety and added some more my cage is connected at 16 different points to the frame and outriggers

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
I sure hope you sprayed that dash down with a good fire retardant... =-O

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
While I have pretty much taken the summer away from the project, I did decide to get the motor assembled. All I'm missing right now is the oil pump. Ignore the location of the head bolts. I had a DA attack and put the short ones on bottom. It was corrected before installing the heads....

Man, I hate body work....
Found some cracked bondo and when I started working on it, I found that they built it up almost 3/16" of an inch. When I started taking it out, I was shocked at how large of an area someone filled with the crap. The bare metal you see was all covered with bondo. You can see new bondo in the picture and this little amount was all that was needed.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ Not to piss anyone off but the floor modifiactions pertain to the dash bar not the rocker bars. If the frame rails are in under the drivers seat then rocker bars are required on a full frame vehicle. The rocker bars can be above or below the floor as long as they are outside the driver. I can get the NHRA page pertaining to this and post it here if you like.

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
Thanks Travis, could I weld a piece of 2x3 tube between the outriggers? This would be outside the driver seat. Or would it have to be round tube same as the cage?

1 5/8" x .083 CM or 1 5/8" x .118 MS >>>>>>>>>>>OR >>>>>>>>>> 2"x2" X .083 CM or 2"x2" x .118 MS ............. ALL MINIMUNS you can have.

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
My regional NHRA inspector said the rocker bars are NOT required on a TRUCK for an 8.50 certification and that the dash bar being required or not is dependent on whether the firewall is modified or not in excess of X amount and the rocker bars are dependent upon the floors or the transmission tunnel being modified in excess of 6'. The rules for a full framed truck are a little different than a full framed car.
But I did suggest to him that if he has any questions to call his NHRA tech inspector.

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
I went ahead and ordered some tube to add them in. Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.
Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
What tubing did you order? I would use 1 5/8" round tube below the cab.

Re: 1995 F150 pro Street project thread
Started working 2 jobs to raise some extra cash to buy parts so progress has slowed ALMOST to a stop. Good news is the shop is starting to fill up with parts.. I'm planning to work this second gig until I get the remaining big ticket parts bought. Then I'll be going after the project with a vengeance!
Finally got the chassis back from a fab shop where he formed the dash and console. Now I just have to finish it, and install the gauges, switches etc.
