Cyinder pressure??? Empty Cyinder pressure???

Post  1951 ford August 14th 2013, 8:26 pm

Hey guys just did a compression test on my build . Dont think i even have an hour of run time on the engine and i'm seeing about 165 psi and all cylinders. Is this good and will it increase once engine is broken in ?

Good or bad depends on cam, ring gap, and most importantly, was it warm and sealing or cold? Was the throttle held wide open? Lots of variables affect that reading, the most important thing is that all cylinders seemed equal.

When I had the same cam in my 460 with the stock dish pistons and dove heads it had around 170psi

Warm it up and open the carb and it will be a good bit higher.

Just curious, what initiated a cranking compression test?

Dave.

If you advance the camshaft you will get more cranking compression however, that certainly doesn't mean it will make more power; maybe even less.
