Decided Not to Back Half the Torino Empty Decided Not to Back Half the Torino

Post  Dave C. September 19th 2013, 10:09 pm

Ok , about the time I decided to get back in the shop , Jon suggested  we back half the car. At first I wasn't sure I should spend the money on such a heavy car. I took a short drive to look at Ted's 64 falcon that he has listed on here for sale. It is a first class car and I'll probably regret not buying it but I decided to stay with the Torino . So it looks like the sparks are gonna be flyin around here for a while! And yes this should have gone into the chassis tech section but i dont know how to change it.

Well going the big tire route can make it easier to get down the track with decent power numbers with a reduced need to spend some extra money on the more expensive ignition retard/ramp control setups. Just depends on how much power you end up with. And a bigger tire should last a little longer than a small tire.

Are you going to buy a back-half "kit," or make it yourself? Round tube or box tube frame? Ladder bar or 4-link (or other)? Is the car going to be strip only or multi-use?

Seen Gordon's car at US60 and it is a sweet car in deed  I love you  I would not chop yours up  GORDON Exclamation   Kinda of off track here being a Ford site...... I have 1970 442 that I have raced in the past. The thing run's respectible times of 12.0's. I wanted to go faster so I decided I would buy me a car to go faster so I wouldn't chop it up since there isn't too many of the  "good ole cars" still around .

Just my 2 cents................ Good Luck Dave C ...........BTW my Olds came from OKC when I lived there  Wink

This car already has a cage welded in it . It was originally a 302 car so it's not worth much anyway. If it had been an original GT or big block car I would leave it alone. Had several mustangs in the past and bought this one because its different. It won't ever be the fastest car but it'll be fast enough for me.

Spend the extra money on the 4 link and good shocks. It will make the car worth a little more if you ever try to sell it.

I agree w/Dave and the others. Those are both really Nice Torino's that are rare to find in those conditions. Tore has a nice chassis  For Sale on Racing junk that would be great for what you are doing.

Dave it is your car build it the way you want it,after all you will be the one spending the money, time and effort. I've built several and was never happy building a car the way somebody else wanted. I've had 100 people ask me why did you build it that way. Talking about my 98. I can answer. Because I wanted to. Do it the way you want and enjoy!

I'm always open to suggestions . That's why I watch this forum. Most of the guys on here have been racing longer than me . They have tried different ways to go faster and they don't mind voicing their opinion. Too much BS on the other sites.
