Could a carb some kinda way cause a engine to be really fat on one side?

We had the same problem with our small block. The valve covers were installed toward the back of the motor and the evacuation system was drawing oil out of the breather and into the header past the check valve.

It would smoke some at idle but not a lot.
Turned the valve covers around facing the front of the car and problem solved.
No more smoky.
Plug looks way rich especially if that's a throttle cut from hi speed
