http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/trans/Ford%20C4/1971%20Ford%20C4%20Technician%20Reference%20Manual/index1.html Check this one. If you get it apart, see if it has 6 pinion planitaries.

The extra wide bushing is how wide? This one is just a tick under 3/4" and made of brass I think

And when looking down on trans (its stood up)gasket was ripped/cracked thru bottom right corner off of rectangular passage so hopefully that was leak spot.

Re: C4 leaking
On the bushing, I would say that is the wide one, but nut 100% positive, but it about the size of a C6 bushing from memory. Are the bolts on the bell housing seperate from the pump? Check your PM box, but it is probably to late.

And I am not going that deep to see what's in there. I only loosened/tightened front band

Re: C4 leaking
What I meant was if it had seperate bolts that hold it to the case, or do they go thru the bell housing and pump? I think all of the BBF bell housing's are the large style and have seperate bolts, but I am not sure.

Don't get me to lying. I like type F myself, but guy's seem to run all type's now. I would check around some. How was the seal grove on the torque convertor?

Re: C4 leaking
I think okay. I've seen merc III, type F and john deere tractor fluid in my searches. Just hoping guys with big blocks say something as the torque is just a tick more

https://www.429-460.com/t21069-trans-fluid?highlight=fluid If you like to spend A lot of money, check this link. Last I heard Frank Merkel still recomended regular ol Type F with the C6's, and he should know. You will probably need to fill that C4 with Super Glue to hold it together behind that BBF.

Dang 9.19 a quart. How many quarts these C4s hold?

Re: C4 leaking
It will depend on your convertor and trans cooler size, but I would think 10 quarts or less.

I have never used it, but I bet the John Deere and IH fluid is good stuff too.

Re: C4 leaking
Now my question is do I beat on it and test it or save it for the track because it's a matter of time before it does it again ?

Re: C4 leaking
I would save it for the track, before something else falls off, and it will.
