Re: New 7 liter engine from Ford...???
This is a good article on the 7.3...
https://www.svtperformance.com/threads/fords-450hp-7-3l-godzilla-v8-inside-info-spy-pics-wheres-the-direct-injection.1170924/?fbclid=IwAR3_xw2LBqo0WdGyKdgH9CNPeqhHyZ2_KzK7lKE8AKEaqD4hoSCNSDFrn0o
They mentioned Brian Wolfe being on the design build team.
That's great. He did great things for Ford Racing back in the day.

A friend of mine from high school, who worked at Rouch Racing and ultimately drove their IMSA race car before going to work at Ford, was also on the design team for this engine. No shortage of performance minded guys, but I haven't heard anything about how or if that played into the design process, or if there are any further plans for other applications.....but it sure does look like it!

I hate to be a negative Nancy but Ford will f it up some how.... it's hard to believe they have been making vehicles for over 100 years with some of the stupid things in my 2017 SD.

Just read that svt thread. I'm getting a little excited. Those head castings look great.

Here's hoping they will swing and offer mount kits, etc for classic cars much like they have for Gen3 Hemi and LS engines.
Please, please, please, please
SEMA and PRI could be more interesting if Ford makes these engines available to the company's that make those parts.

With inline valves I wonder if we might eventually see actual aftermarket support since it will have a lower development and machining costs. You can get LS heads everywhere.
Also, should only need about an .080 ovebore to get to 460

Re: New 7 liter engine from Ford...???
According to this article it has a 107.2 mm (4.22 in) bore and 101mm (3.98 in) stroke. With a bore that large I wonder if the bore spacing is larger than the 6.2 v8's 115mm (4.527 in) BS. I know a 4.22 bore would fit in that BS, but for a HD application I bet Ford wanted more material in the walls and room for water jackets. Also, a Ford engineer said the 7.3 is 4 inches longer than the 6.2. Hmmmm
The article also mentions the 7.3 is 50lbs lighter (than the outgoing V10 presumably). Which puts it at around 570lbs. Thats comparable to iron block LS and new Hemis.

The bore spacing is 115mm....same as 6.2L. The bore is 4.211".
Re: New 7 liter engine from Ford...???
Well I wonder how it ended up 4inches longer than the 6.2. Long water pump or something I guess.
Also, 4.211 bore with a 3.976 stroke works out to 443ci, but everything I've seen puts it at 445ci. A 4.22 bore with 3.976 stroke is right at 445. Are you sure about that bore?

Yes. I have a picture of the Ford deck print from a Ford employee. I have a picture of a set of digital calipers that a Ford employee had put on the bore. 4.211" x 3.98" is 443.4 c.i.d.
I never repeat internet gossip or make wild assed guesses.

They may call it a 445 for publicity/advertisement reasons.
The old FE 427 was actually 425.....but "427" sounds meaner/tougher!!

i hope your right !!!
i think the simple factor some guys may go this route over a new diesel due to all the emissions and stuff on the new diesel and let alone the price.

Re: New 7 liter engine from Ford...???
Knowing the deck height and bore space, I took two of the pics and threw them into AutoCAD and did some scaling.
ROUGH dimensions:
Crank CL to top if intake : 20"
Crank CL to top of coil mount on VC: 17.5"
Overall width (outside edges of VC's): 22.5"
Block itself is ~ 18.5" F to R (tough to measure because they used a fish-eye camera lens.)
For comparison: Dims from my stock head BBF with tall FMS VC's, Victor, Dominator.
Crank CL to top if carb : 23"
Crank CL to top of VC: 18.5"
Overall width (outside edges of VC's): 26"
Block itself is ~ 23" F to R
Maybe that will give us a ballpark idea about the physical size of this engine.

430hp 475lbft meh. Feels like a big let down. I guess its just enough to be "best in class".
