Re: New 598 build, mud racing
Ok when you said a "trickle" of oil it had me concerned.
I have a .080" hole in the front and rear is plugged, like yours. BAM lifters i had to groove a bit but mine oils way more than a trickle. T&D's also.
Maybe it's the "restricted" push rods you have. Mine are 7/16 .165 wall Trends but not a restricted push rod.
It's amazing how much oil flows through that .080" hole. I prime with the intake off and oil pours out the the roller on the lifter

Yes, the pushrods have a .040 restriction. Eliminator recommended a.125 restrictor in the gallery, tried that, to much oil, went to .060 restrictor and thought it might not be enough. So I ended up at .100. and yes I had a lot of oil coming out as round the lifter wheel. I look at it like this, oil is blood to a engine. Rather loose as little power to windage than starve valvetrain of oil. Thanks cory

I agree. I want it to live, not worried about the power difference. Won't notice that in a 5300lb truck anyway

Norm, I should clarify what I consider a trickle. Oil was running off each rocker nose - wheel. Way less than a stock engine. We primed for probably 5/6 minutes. Never over oiled, the drain back holes in heads never backed up with oil. Bought the same as our 557. Thanks cory

After I inspected trans issues, I worked on the engine. Got the intake on. Ports lined up perfect. Figured I would have to massage them a little. Only things left are rear cam tunnel plug and install all the screw in freeze plugs then mask of the block and give it a shot of paint. Thanks cory

Well, got the engine bolted in the chassis. With the taller intake, had to make new fuel lines. Reconfigure the accessory drive setup. Now have alt, fuel pump, power steering pump, vac pump to mount. It was a pain to get it laid out. But its finally ready to fire up. Had one problem with carb, the secondary float bowl was leaking. Found the fuel inlet threads were almost stripped. Swapped the bowls off the 1150 and was good to go. Plan on firing it up this weekend.

Hey all, my son was chomping at the bit to fire it up today. I gave him the option, go deer hunting or go fire it up. Guess which one he chose, lol. We put a heat lamp under the pan for about 2 hrs while we double checked wiring, nuts n bolts. Filled up with water, primed fuel system etc. Fired up almost instantly. Wish I was good at computer shit I would of posted up picks and a video, lol. Set the timing at 28 locked out. Hardly had to do much adjustments to the carb. It was very close, idle mix was enriched about 1/2 turn out and rear butterfly about 1 turn open. Idle cleanly at 1300 rpm. Brought up to about 180 temp for 10/15 min. Oil pressure hot was 45 at idle and 75 just off idle. Idled smoother than the 557. But boy does it have throttle response. Just touch the throttle and instantly 5000 rpm. Never dreamed it would be that responsive. I will try to get my son to post up some pics n video. Would like to say thanks to Lem Evans, Mike Jones, Patrick from Prosystems. And all the people on this sight. And a good friend of mine Steve. Without all of you probably still be running the old setup this coming race season. Thanks cory

Hey all, got through holidays In one piece! . Started adding up parts list for the transmission. Ended up only 400$ from what a fully built C6 from Broader performance cost. So I called them up today and ordered a C6 fully rollerized, trans brake, 300m input shaft and a 10" 5500 stall convertor. Jay said it will be about 8 weeks. I have bought parts from him in the past. Excellent guy to deal with.

Got to revamp some mounting brackets for the alternator. Hopefully the new midplate from KFM shows up, and then the trans and convertor in a couple weeks. Thanks cory

Got a few more pieces n parts ordered yesterday. Yukon pro N center section 3.25 bearing, 35 spline spool, 1350 billet yoke, and 9310 big pinion pro gears-3.89 ratio, and billet Daytona pinion support. Ordered from Quick performance, they had everything in stock!!!!, Never dreamed they would have the gears in stock, ships today. One more piece to the puzzle.

Well, I got the new rear diff done. Had a hell of a time getting a good pattern. Must of had the pinion out 15 times. Get the pattern centered but would be to high on ring gear tooth. Ended up moving pinion in .005 and opening lash to .011/.012 to get a decent pattern. I have done probably 25 9" diffs and this was the absolute worst to get a decent pattern. Thanks cory

Re: New 598 build, mud racing
More pieces n parts showed up the other day. Transmission and convertor from Broader performance. Gave them all the specs on the engine and truck. Got a 10" 5500 convertor, after a little thought I should have told them to shoot for 58/6000 stall. If it ends up tight I will send it back for restall. Jay at broader perf is a great guy to deal with and a straight shooter.

Now the axles need to get ordered, 35 spline from quick perf. Thanks cory

Re: New 598 build, mud racing
Well trying to make progress, axles showed up the other day. 35 spline 3" wheel studs from quick perf. And stupid me thought I would install them and get the rear end buttoned up. Not the easiest with my shoulder all banged up. I hurt like hell yesterday. Should've waited for my son to get there. But now have to slide trans back and replace flex plate. Want to try less start retard. Bad idea, kicked back and took a tooth off. So that's this weekends project. Trying to make it to a race in 2 weeks. Still got some tuning to do.
